Job summary

Interior Health is seeking an experienced Care Aide to join our Long-term Care team at Arrow Lakes Hospital in Nakusp, BC. Working under RNs and LPNs, you will provide patient-centered care and support the individual's physical, emotional, and social needs, promoting maximum independence.

The position offers a casual opportunity with varied hours, opportunities for training and ongoing education, and benefits associated with IH employment in a team-focused, community-based hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • Grade 10.
  • Graduation from a recognized Nursing Assistant / Health Care Aide Program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker registry (please include your active number)

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with personal care and activities of daily living.
  • Assisting with mobility, transfers and related equipment.
  • Performing nursing procedures such as taking temperature, pulse and respiration.
  • Housekeeping activities relating to maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
  • Observing and reporting changes in patient behavior and condition.
  • Accompanying clients on outings and during social activities.
  • Performing clerical duties and delegated tasks.

About the Job

As the Care Aide you will work as an integral part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team, who provide care and support in a long-term care setting. Working under the direction of RN’s and LPN’s, Care Aide’s have key responsibilities in the individual care plan for each patient, ensuring their physical, emotional and social needs are supported, while promoting maximum independence.

Typical duties include:

  • Assisting with personal care and activities of daily living
  • Assisting with mobility, transfers and related equipment
  • Performing nursing procedures such as taking temperature, pulse and respiration
  • Housekeeping activities relating to maintaining a safe and healthy environment
  • Observing and reporting changes in patient behavior and condition
  • Accompanying clients on outings and during social activities
  • Performing clerical duties and delegated tasks

This is a Casual opportunity. Casual Employees are not guaranteed hours of work and can range from 0-37.5 hours per week on an as-needed basis.

About this location

Minto House embodies a resident-centered philosophy designed to support residents’ choices, help people function at their highest level, and provide the best quality of life possible. This facility is one story with 14 residential beds, and a private bathroom in each room. We also have recreation activities daily, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy available based on client need and a Rehab Assistant available daily for the walking program, exercise and assessments.
