Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH) is inviting applications for the position of a General Cardiologist. SMH, located in the Lower Mainland, is part of the Fraser Health Authority. It is the second-largest hospital in BC with nearly 800 beds and has the busiest ER department in the country. The hospital features a 9-bed CCU, an 18-bed telemetry ward, and plans for expansion. Echocardiography and nuclear medicine studies are available at SMH and the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre. Outpatient clinics include Heart Function, Lipid, Pacemaker, and Cardiac Rehabilitation clinics.
The nearby Royal Columbian Hospital serves as the regional cardiac surgery centre. The cardiology program at SMH is expanding, with plans to open the province’s first standalone cardiac catheterization labs in late 2025, and to add cardiac surgery on site with a new critical care tower in early 2030.
The successful candidate will join a team of 14.5 FTE cardiologists, participating in on-call service, ward service, electro-diagnostic interpretation (including echocardiography), and supervising/teaching medical trainees.
Applicants must have CMPA membership, be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC, and hold an FRCP(C) or equivalent.
Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre is a state-of-the-art outpatient facility offering ambulatory and surgical day services, along with specialized clinics such as anticoagulation, chronic pain, breast health, diabetes, cardiac and lung health, with lab, imaging, and pharmacy services.
Surrey Memorial Hospital is a 775-bed, university-affiliated regional referral and teaching hospital with the busiest emergency department in BC, offering comprehensive medical, surgical, neonatal intensive care, and other specialized services.
