University Health Network’s Peter Munk Cardiac Centre provides world-class cardiovascular care at the Outpatient Cardiac Clinic in Toronto. The role supports a major referral program with a multidisciplinary team delivering comprehensive testing and assessment services to patients.

We seek CSCT-certified technicians with ECG interpretation skills, EPIC experience, and a commitment to patient safety. This casual, 0–37.5 hour/week position offers competitive compensation and growth opportunities

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Cardiology CSCT-recognized program; CSCT certification preferred.
• Current BCLS certificate.
• Ability to interpret ECGs and identify arrhythmias and signs of ischemia/infarction.
• Two years of related experience preferred.
• EPIC system experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Manage patient identification, preparation, and safety prior to examination.
• Perform cardiac testing procedures including ECGs, stress testing, gas analysis, and ambulatory BP monitoring.
• Collaborate with physicians for patient intake assessments.
• Document patient information in Epic accurately and efficiently.
• Analyze tests to create preliminary reports for physicians.
• Ensure emergency equipment is ready for use at all times.
• Support learners in the clinical environment.

Position Summary

The Peter Munk Cardiac Centre program provides world-class cardiovascular care. One of the largest programs of its kind in North America, we are a major referral centre. Our program offers resources and expertise prepared to deal with even the most complex patient cases. Our multidisciplinary team includes physicians, surgeons, nurses, pharmacists, dieticians and other allied health professionals with special training in cardiac and vascular conditions and its treatment. Each year, our innovative surgery techniques and outstanding cardiology interventions attract hundreds of visiting professors and trainees from around the globe. The Outpatient Cardiac Clinic provides a variety of cardiac assessment, diagnosis, and management services to patients. We are made up of many different clinics, and each clinic offers a specific cardiac service.

Duties

• Manages patient identification, preparation, and safety to ensure accuracy prior to examination, and maintaining confidentiality
• Executes all cardiac testing procedures such asrecording ECGs, stress testing, gas analysis and ambulatory BP monitoring in alignment with CSCT standards
• Works collaboratively with physicians to provide patient intake medical assessments
• Collectsand documents patient information in the electronic patient record (Epic)efficiently and accurately
• Analyzes tests to create summarized preliminary reports for physicians
• Confirms all quality control assessments as required
• Ensure emergency equipment is ready for use at all times
• Works in alignment with best practices, related policies, and the health and safety legislation, and consider all reasonable precautions
• Complies to UHN’s standards and procedures for appropriate equipment maintenance
• Manages the efficiency and effectiveness of equipment and instrument performance
• Supports learners in the clinical environment

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Cardiology program recognized by the Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists (CSCT)
• Certification with CSCT, preferred
• Demonstrated ability to interpret ECGs, identifying cardiac arrhythmias, and electrocardiographic signs of myocardial ischemia/infarction on ECGs
• CurrentBCLScertificate
• 2 years of related experience, preferred
• Experience working with the EPIC system, an asset
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
• Committed to continuous education and training
• Proven problem solving and efficiencies decision making skills
• A friendly, empathetic and respectful demeanour, and the ability work independently and collaboratively.
• Skills to resolve inter-personal conflict should it arise
