Job summary

Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, BC seeks a Clinical Associate with strong post-operative cardiac surgery skills to lead an inter-disciplinary team on 2 South Cardiac Surgery Step-Down Unit. Independent practice license with experience in Cardiac Surgery and related fields is preferred.

Remuneration follows the Physician Master Agreement; the clinic will provide seven-day coverage with a rotating 8-hour shifts across weekdays and weekends.

Qualifications

• CCFP or FRCPC required or eligible.
• CPSBC full license required.
• CPSBC provisional license acceptable.
• CMPA membership required.
• ACLS certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Schedule daily attendance and assessment of post-operative patients.
• Liaise with the PCC and nursing staff to review overnight events and urgent issues.
• Clinical assessment, diagnostics, and treatment for medical management.
• Ward rounds with direct communication to nurses and review of concerns.
• Coordinate care with intensivists in CSICU for arriving post-op patients.
• Educate and train nursing, medical and pharmacy students.
• Multidisciplinary meetings to facilitate complex discharges.
• Bedside procedures and wound care as required.
• Discharge planning and documentation in CVI-Source/Meditech Advance.
• Identify and arrange follow-up outpatient diagnostics and appointments.
• Medication review with attending pharmacist and patient education.
• Understanding use of temporary external pacemakers and nursing education.
• ECG monitoring interpretation and consultation with electrophysiology as needed.
• Coordinate care across subspecialties (respirology, endocrinology, nephrology, infectious diseases, psychiatry).
