Job description

Fraser Health Authority – Royal Columbian Hospital

Fraser Health is responsible for the delivery of hospital and community-based health services to over 1.9 million people in 20 diverse communities from Burnaby to Fraser Canyon within the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the Coast Salish and Nlaka’pamux Nations, which is home to six Métis Chartered Communities.

The Division of Cardiac Surgery is seeking a permanent full-time Cardiac Surgeon to join our group of six surgeons.

The ideal candidate will have 5 to 10 years of full-time independent operating experience. Additional training and experience in complex open and minimally invasive mitral and aortic valve surgery would be an asset.

The ideal start time for the position is after July 1, 2025.

The Royal Columbian Hospital is a full-service, adult non-transplant cardiac surgery center serving a population of almost 2 million. Our service performs over 950 open heart procedures annually, including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve repair and replacement, complex aortic surgery, TEVAR, and Ross procedures.

We also perform tachy, brady, and biventricular cardiac electrical device implants.

We are equal partners in the TAVR, TEER, and TMVR programs.

Three of our members are part of the extracorporeal life support program and one member practices critical care medicine.

The Royal Columbian Hospital is a major teaching site for the University of British Columbia cardiac surgery residency and undergraduate medical education programs.

The $1.3 billion Royal Columbian Hospital redevelopment will see cardiac surgery infrastructure and operating capacity increase by at least 50% with a projected opening in February 2026.

Qualifications:

  1. Certified in cardiac surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
  2. Eligible for licensure with College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC)
  3. Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) - Mandatory

Full Time / Part Time / Locum / Temporary: Permanent full-time

Royal Columbian Hospital is a provincial referral hospital (stroke / cardiac / trauma / neurosurgery) located in New Westminster, BC, with 439 acute beds and is a University of British Columbia affiliated teaching hospital.
