Job summary

CPKC seeks a Commodity Tax Advisor to lead Canadian tax compliance, advisory, and governance across the organization. You will interpret legislation, support tax determinations and system logic, and manage audits with federal and provincial authorities.

A CPA designation and 8+ years of experience are preferred, with SAP knowledge advantageous. Based in Calgary, AB, the role offers a path to seniority within a collaborative Finance & Accounting team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required or equivalent experience.
• CPA or equivalent designation is required or in progress.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian commodity taxes and tax research skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead and continuously improve Canadian commodity tax compliance, recovery programs, and related controls to ensure compliance with regulatory and SOX requirements.
• Provide technical commodity tax expertise, guidance, and coaching to team members and internal stakeholders.
• Interpret federal and provincial commodity tax legislation and advise business partners on tax implications of operations and strategy.
• Evaluate business transactions and recommend tax-efficient solutions to maximize recoveries and minimize risk.
• Support design, implementation, and validation of system tax logic across processes.
• Coordinate commodity tax audits, assessments, objections, and appeals with tax authorities.
• Prepare tax memos, audit responses, and technical documentation; communicate with authorities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and implement process improvements.

Education
