Reuters seeks an experienced Senior Political Correspondent to break news and deliver strong beat and investigative reporting at the most pivotal time in Canada’s recent history.
The reporter should be skilled at developing high-level sources in politics and government and know how to leverage those sources to break news and deliver scoops. Experience reporting on and writing about major political and government developments for an international audience, often under time pressure, is essential. An understanding of Canadian policy and politics, or the ability to develop that understanding, is also key. Among the topics to be covered are the entry of a new government, negotiations over tariffs that could cripple the economy, and the fraught diplomatic and political relationship with the United States. Knowledge of policy issues including trade, diplomacy, security, social safety nets and energy would be beneficial.
The reporter should have an eye for policy stories that impact business and the economy. The successful candidate also should have experience working closely with other beat reporters and with visual journalists to cover, develop and tell stories.
