Position Summary...

The role designs, develops, and executes strategies for complex categories to achieve profit and loss objectives and meet customer needs at competitive prices.

What you'll do...

Accountable for all aspects of merchandise profit and loss management and category financial results related to specific categories, including short-term and long-term planning. Responsible for managing forecasts, sales, markdowns, co-op collection, market share growth, gross profit, inventory targets, budgets, and pricing. Communicates results to cross-functional partners, reviews post-buy financial analysis, and develops category strategies aligned with merchant framework and financials using multiple data sources. Conducts item-level assortment analysis, determines assortment decisions, vendor optimization, SKU optimization, price ladders, and private label/brand strategy. Visits stores to build category strategies and price ladders for priority sub-categories. Communicates strategies to leadership and cross-functional teams for planning and execution. Manages vendor agreements, costs, allowances, quality, and delivery terms to ensure supplier performance. Develops and maintains vendor relationships domestically and overseas.

Responsible for all marketing aspects of the category, including space planning based on historical analysis, item-level planning, selection, placement, forecasting, and execution for tabs and media. Ensures accuracy of final media proofs and manages exit strategies for residual inventory.

Handles new item and promotional forecasts, manages markdowns, markups, price adjustments, and develops exit strategies. Prepares and leads line reviews, delivers store-ready modulars and seasonal sets, conducts modular walkthroughs with senior management, and creates store communication for flawless execution.

Attends trade shows and buying trips to identify new vendors, enhance innovation, and align product categories with corporate strategies across regions.

Manages associate engagement, development, and succession planning. Provides coaching and mentorship to team members and vendor partners.

Qualifications:

• College Certificate or Diploma
• 6-8 years of experience
• Retail experience in merchandising or category management
• Commodity knowledge and negotiation skills are assets
• Experience with website/digital strategy influence and execution
• Negotiation expertise
• Experience leading special projects and initiatives
