Position Summary
The Director of Data Delivery is responsible for ensuring the timely and high-quality delivery of data products across agile teams within Walmart Canada. This role drives efficiency and agile best practices through the leadership of scrum masters, while enabling strong stakeholder engagement and clear requirement gathering via data analysts. The Director is instrumental in transforming delivery practices to unlock business value, supporting strategic data transformation, and directly impacting business outcomes across multiple domains.
What you'll do
- Stakeholder Engagement & Requirements: Guide data analysts in capturing clear, complete user stories and building strong stakeholder relationships.
- Agile Delivery Oversight: Lead scrum masters to improve team velocity, agile maturity, and delivery cadence.
- Data Product Strategy: Shift delivery focus from business domains to reusable, consistent data products.
- Executive Reporting & Visibility: Provide business outcome-focused reporting to senior leadership.
- Vendor Management: Manage performance and feedback for vendor resources and evolve the managed capacity model into managed services.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with technology, product, and global data teams to align delivery with strategic goals.
- Team Development: Hire, coach, and provide performance feedback to scrum masters and data analysts.
- Strategic Planning & Resource Management: Formulate strategy, target state, and roadmap for the Data Office, including resource allocation, methodology, standards, and budgeting.
- Project Management Practice: Lead and continuously improve project management processes, facilitate project plans, milestones, and roadmaps.
- Administrative Leadership: Plan, schedule, and facilitate Data Office meetings (e.g., Release Review, Steercos, Townhalls), and collaborate on content and input for meetings.
- Scrum Master Operations: Implement and mentor agile best practices, host daily stand-ups and agile ceremonies, and remove roadblocks for development teams.
- Communications Leadership: Develop Data Office branding and communication materials, facilitate exposure of initiatives, and set direction for communication channels.
- Budget Accountability: Manage an operating budget of $1.5MM to $2MM for a team of 10–15.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or Data Analytics, or a related field is required.
Experience
- Minimum 15+ years of work experience in data delivery, analytics, or related fields.
- Minimum 7–10 years of supervisory/management experience.
- Experience in retail and / or eCommerce data environments preferred.
- Familiarity with Walmart Canada’s business domains is an asset.
Certifications
- Agile or Scrum certifications preferred (e.g., PMP, SAFe).
- No mandatory licenses or certifications, but technology or communications degrees are valued.
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong leadership in agile delivery and data product management.
- Deep understanding of stakeholder engagement and requirement gathering.
- Experience with vendor management and service model transformation.
- Familiarity with JIRA, agile methodologies, and data lifecycle practices.
