The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a temporary job opening for a Camp Weekend Security Specialist for Camp Hidden Lake in Lexington, Mississippi.

This is a Weekend position.

Job Summary:

Monitors and ensures the safety and well-being of camp facilities and buildings to ensure compliance with housing rules and policies and to protect the safety of camp staff and children.

Essential Functions:
  1. Ensures buildings are unlocked in the morning for camp activities.
  2. Ensures all staff and campers are in their quarters by curfew and remain in their personal living quarters throughout the night.
  3. Secures and locks all buildings after curfew.
  4. Monitors camp facilities throughout the night.
  5. Maintains the security of all sleeping areas and buildings by conducting security checks throughout the night.
  6. Keeps a security log of all incidents, which is to be turned into the Camp Director each morning, and brings to the Camp Director's attention any incidents that need immediate attention.
  7. Serves as a transport person for emergency trips.
  8. Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean, and ready for inspection.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  1. Knowledge of security practices and procedures.
  2. Ability to influence and control human behavior and enforce security rules and guidelines.
  3. Ability to respond to emergencies in a calm and effective manner.
  4. Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.
  5. Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
  6. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
  7. Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  8. Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid; must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
Education and Experience:

Six months experience working with the public with experience in a security or social service environment preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications:
  1. Valid and Current Driver’s License
  2. CPR and First Aid Certification
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Some physical requirements of the Camp Security position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate security equipment and activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available.

Additional Information:

Camp Staff Orientation will be held 06/09/2025 – 06/13/2025, and full participation is required.

The 2025 Summer Camp program will be held 06/16/2025 – 07/19/2025. The anticipation is for every staff member to work the entire summer, and this is the only way to receive a bonus. If you are unable to work the entire program session, please let us know on your application.

Compensation: $300/week
