Job Description:

Program:

Assists in implementing a summer program for children ages 6-11

Work well with children, parents and with other counselors to plan various activities.

Assist with a range of administrative duties.

Give oversight and supervision of children.

Assist with conflict resolution.

Ensure campers learn in a safe, fun, and stimulating environment.

Assist with registration and screening of campers upon arrival.

Maintain, adhere to, and always administer camp rules/policies of the camp program.

Willingness to offer spiritual support to campers, parents, other staff members, and is passionate about sharing the Gospel with all involved in the program.

Participate and lead aspects of camp program.

Demonstrate responsible, ethical, and professional conduct.

Provide support and instruction to others.

Assist with leadership training opportunities for youth volunteers as required.

Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work Environment

The work environment is typically at the Church and outside. Must be flexible. It will include indoor and outdoor settings according to program planning with the possibility of going off-site to local parks or playgrounds within walking distance.

Generally agreeable conditions, with the following exceptions:

Dealing with angry/upset youth and parents as well as Verbal Abuse

May be exposed to the risk of minor harm, injury, or illness due to:

Physical attacks by others

Exposure to infectious diseases

Moving objects

Risk of sports related injuries.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Must be a high school student or graduate

  • Alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Prior experience planning programs and supervising children is required

  • Clear and current Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC)

  • First Aid and CPR certificate or willingness to attain

  • Child/Adult Abuse Registry Check

Skills and Capabilities (examples provided below):

  • Must be able to join children in a variety of activities and maintain a high energy level throughout the program days.

  • Enjoy working with children.

  • Supportive knowledge of the mission of The Salvation Army

  • Excellent communication, conflict, resolution, and organizational skills.

  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and discretion.

Hourly rate is $15.80 (min wage)
Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. OR 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (1/2 hour unpaid meal break

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $15.80 to $17.46 with a maximum of $20.95.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
