Job Title: Oshawa Multi-Sport Camp Counsellor (Coach)

About True North Sports Camps

True North Sports Camps offers year-round sports programming for boys and girls ages 2 to 14 in Toronto, Etobicoke, and Oshawa. We offer baseball, flag football, basketball, soccer, multi-sport, and multi-sport with a hockey specialty summer day camps, as well as after-school and weekend programs during the fall, winter, and spring. At True North, we believe that recreational sports are an important part of every child’s development, and we make it our top priority to deliver a truly memorable experience.

True North Sports Camps was created by the founders of North Toronto Baseball Camp, and since 2007 our goal has remained the same: to provide the highest quality sports instruction in a fun, safe, and encouraging environment.

Summer Camp Details

Camp operates weekly in July and August from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm (with extended care from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm) Monday to Friday. This summer, camp will operate for 8 weeks (June 30 – August 22). We are hiring Camp Counsellors (Coaches) for our Multi-Sport Camp in Oshawa at The Yard (870 Taunton Road West, Oshawa ON).

Work Hours

You will be required to be on-site July & August from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday to Friday with a 30-minute unpaid break between the hours of 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm.

Responsibilities

Camp Counsellors (Coaches) will be responsible for leading a skill group, which includes providing outstanding instruction while fostering a fun and encouraging environment. Successful candidates’ responsibilities will be, but are not limited to, the following:

Pre-Camp (June)

1. Attendance and participation in mandatory staff training that is currently expected to occur the weekend of June 21/22, although this date is subject to change.

At Camp (July & August)

1. Leading a skill group:
2. Ensuring all campers feel welcome and stay safe (well hydrated and protected from the sun)
3. Prepare and execute lessons, drills, and games from your skill group
4. Complete weekly scouting reports for campers in your skill group
5. Provide coaching instruction in a manner that takes individual differences in skill and learning styles into account
6. Lead large group games and activities within your cohort - get involved with the campers!
7. Follow camp-wide policies and procedures (i.e., Hand sanitation, phones/tablets away during camp, regular headcounts, garbage pick-up, etc.)
8. Participate in daily staff meetings
9. Assist the Camp Directors in tracking and organizing camp equipment, supplies, t-shirts, and prizes
10. Some senior-level Coaches may be asked to supervise, mentor, and evaluate a member of our Coach-in-Training Program.
