In conjunction with the Government of Canada, MacEwan University is offering youth the opportunity to apply their education and skills in the workplace through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program, which is a 6-to-16-week employment program between April 21, 2025 to August 30, 2025.

Our Griffins Athletics department is looking for experienced and enthusiastic youth sport coaches to fill the Camp Coordinator, Team Lead (Student Worker) position, to lead, support, and motivate campers as they enjoy full day basketball, volleyball, hockey, or multisport camps in a positive team environment. With the help of Griffins coaches and staff, you will design and lead instructional sessions to a group of young athletes emphasizing skill development, safety, sportsmanship, and fun.

This role will work 35 hours per week, with an expected start date of May 12, 2025, and ending on or before August 29, 2025.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing an inclusive camp experience which includes working with participants with different needs such as children with disabilities, children with behaviours challenges, newcomers, and language barriers;
  • Assisting in the development, implementation and supervision of a diversified camp program in cooperation with the Athletics Event Coordinators;
  • Assisting with preparation of program outlines, daily activities and special events, program supplies and additional programming requirements for camp staff;
  • Providing direction and ongoing coaching to enhance front line staff program knowledge, teaching techniques and program planning skills;
  • Supporting front line staff, ensuring safety standards and established procedures are being followed.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience coaching youth sports or playing on post-secondary basketball, volleyball, or hockey teams.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Position Requirements

A valid Vulnerable Sector Check obtained through the Edmonton Police Service must be completed before camps begin.

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the beginning of employment;
  • Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

Please note, international students on a study/work permit are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
