What do you offer?

The Neighbourhood Day Camp Assistant Coordinator supervises and implements the delivery of quality recreational programs, services, and experiences to children and youth aged 4 to 14 enrolled in Neighbourhood Day Camp programs. The NDC Assistant Coordinator supervises counsellors and program staff, providing them with tools to create a meaningful camp experience for all participants as they engage in summer camp activities, discover nature, and enjoy the natural environment, build self-confidence, and establish lasting friendships.

Position will oversee various locations across the city such as:

  • Taggart Family Y
  • Nepean (Barrhaven)
  • Clarence-Rockland Y
  • Stittsville
  • Kanata
Some of the tasks of this position include:
  • Supervising all Neighbourhood Day Camp programs.
  • Assisting the Coordinator with hiring, parent communications, staff management, etc.
  • Assisting with the development of new solutions to deal with new problems.
  • Assisting in feedback and coaching of seasonal staff members.
  • Driving to different camp locations throughout the day, as needed.
  • Engaging in sports and games with the program participants.
What qualifications and abilities are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:

Language
  • Ability to work in English
  • Bilingualism is an asset
Experience, Skills and Abilities
  • Standard First Aid and CPR “C” or equivalent
  • National Lifeguard Certification, Bronze Cross, Paddle Canada, or other relevant certifications will be strongly considered as assets
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience working in camping and outdoor education, and a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in camping and outdoor education
  • Driver’s license and access to a readily available vehicle
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with program participants, members, staff, and volunteers
  • A sound knowledge of child development
  • Ability to act as a positive role model for campers, staff, and volunteers
Additional Requirements
  • Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • A Police Record check, not more than 6 months old is required. Police Records checks are reviewed on an individual basis and the offense(s) - if any - is considered in the decision-making process in relation to the requirement of working with children, therefore not eliminating all candidates with a record from being offered a position.
  • Semi-annually, staff must complete the mandatory training for the protection of Children & Youth and submit the certificate of completion.
