The Gabriel Dumont Institute is seeking a member for its Board of Governors from the Western Region II. This role involves overseeing policy and strategic planning for the organization, which serves Métis communities across Saskatchewan. Candidates should have Métis ancestry and relevant skills in education, finance, or law. The position is for a three-year term with a starting date in 2022.

Overview: The GDI Board of Governors represents the 12 regions of the organization, ratified by the Provincial Métis Council (PMC) of the Métis Nation—Saskatchewan (MN—S). The PMC Member with the Education portfolio chairs the Board. Members serve three-year terms. Employees or managers of affiliated MN—S organizations are ineligible.
Responsibilities: The Board oversees GDI, including policy adoption, strategic planning, budget approval, and representing GDI publicly. It also appoints the CEO responsible for policy implementation and daily operations.
Qualifications: Candidates must be of Métis ancestry, knowledgeable about Saskatchewan Métis culture, history, and social circumstances. Skills in education, finance, business, HR, law, or communications are preferred. Extensive Métis cultural and language experience is encouraged. A criminal record check is required.
Process: Applications are submitted to the MN—S region or GDI, then forwarded to the regional council for consideration. The regional council's choice is ratified by the PMC and then submitted to the Minister of Advanced Education.
Starting Date: 2022, with a three-year appointment and potential renewal.
