Job summary

Hart House at the University of Toronto is seeking team members for a part-time dining and service role within Hospitality Services. This position supports food and beverage operations, handles cash, assists guests, and contributes to delivering memorable experiences at campus events.

We look for one year of related experience, Grade 12, SmartServe certification, and good English communication. Evening availability 11:30am–7:30pm is preferred; AI tools may be used in hiring.

Qualifications

  • SmartServe certification required
  • Education: Grade 12 or equivalent
  • One year of related working experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written)
  • Evening availability preferred (11:30am–7:30pm)

Responsibilities

  • Assemble staff workstations and client self-service stations
  • Set up cash register and handle cash float
  • Enter menu prices into POS when required
  • Advise customers on ingredients, pricing, portions
  • Take orders, input into POS, and process payments
  • Prepare and serve food/beverage items including espresso and alcoholic beverages
  • Deliver orders to clients at counter or table
  • Restock and maintain clean work areas and dining spaces
  • Receive deliveries and check accuracy of slips
  • Restock supplies at end of shift
  • Perform other related duties as required

Responsibilities and Duties
  • assembles staff workstations and client self-service stations with appropriate products and equipment.
  • sets up and prepares cash register, receives cash float and sets up cash appropriately.
  • keys menu prices into cash register if required.
  • advises and provides information to customers such as ingredients, pricing, portion size.
  • receives orders from customers, inputs order into POS system, and collects payment.
  • assembles, prepares, and serves food and beverage products including espresso-based and alcoholic beverages.
  • delivers orders to clients at counter or at table as appropriate.
  • may be called upon to prepare sandwiches, salads and bake premixed food products.
  • collects dishes and tableware used by customers and places them in appropriate areas for washing.
  • cleans tabletops, counters and furniture in cafeteria and surrounding area.
  • removes soiled tableware and garbage to specific locations, sorts recyclable materials.
  • maintains adequate supplies of dishes, utensils and food and paper products in various receptacles for use by customers.
  • polishes glassware
  • may be required to clean floors to maintain safe working conditions.
  • receives and stores deliveries of food and supplies; checks receiving slips for accuracy.
  • restocks at end of shift.
  • other related duties as required.
Qualifications

SmartServe Certification required

Applicants with Barista experience and Food HandlersCertification preferred

Education: Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
Experience: One year of related working experience.
Other:

  • Physical ability to perform required duties
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written)
  • Considerable public relations skills (courtesy and tact).
  • Knowledge of food safety.
  • Ability to work well in a team setting.
  • Ability to handle figures rapidly.

We’re looking for someone with open availability in the evenings, 11:30am -7:30pm.
