Job description

Forecast Coffee is looking for a Cafe Manager for a new location at Hastings & Slocan scheduled to open May 2025. As an extension to our current line up of cafes, this new location will offer our fantastic specialty coffee, house-made baked goods, a small alcohol menu and an elevated everyday food menu.

Main Role Duties:
Café/Bar Daily Operations:
  1. Managing the café/bar while on shift; being an exceptional leader to your team
  2. Scheduling staff and managing labour
  3. Preparing and serving coffee, food and drinks, clearing tables, washing dishes – getting dirty and leading by example
  4. Creating a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment for staff and customers
  5. Managing stock, inventory and ordering so we can continue to make our customers happy
Administrative Operations:
  1. Financial Management – meeting or exceeding set budgets
  2. Community Engagement – Active involvement in community events, building positive relationships in the neighborhood.
  3. Social Purpose – considering environmental and social impact when making decisions for the store.
  4. Communication – professional, respectful, and prompt communication with all team members, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  5. Training will be provided – however experience in some (or all) of these aspects will be considered a great asset.
Specific Duties

This role comes with the following specific duties:

  1. Hiring, firing and discipline
  2. Providing all team members with fulsome basic training following Forecast Training Program
  3. Ongoing development plans for team skill improvement and regular one-on-one meetings with team
  4. Quarterly all-hands staff meeting
  5. Creating profitable weekly schedules (weekly)
  6. Approving vacation and time off requests according to business needs
  7. Bank reconciliations and cash drops (every 2 weeks)
  8. Approving hours and tip reports (weekly Monday)
  9. Perform Café Health Check (weekly)
  10. Monitoring / adjusting weekly task list and delegating to team to ensure everything on list gets done to appropriate level
  11. Reporting maintenance issues and booking service according to schedules or needs
  12. Weekly inventory to assist with accurate ordering (orders Monday and Thursday)
  13. Receiving orders, checking for accuracy and entering to Yellow Dog system
  14. Month end inventory (last week of month)
  15. Managing regular communication to the team
  16. Manage in-store events program by meeting with event leaders, planning operations and bringing event ideas to life
  17. Maintain a record keeping procedure for all certification and licenses
  18. Attend weekly all-hand Manager meeting – collate data and bring ideas and issues to solve
  19. Identifying areas of improvement and bring to Leadership to discuss and resolve
Who YOU Are
  1. Minimum 2-year previous experience in a similar role at manager level
  2. Specialty coffee experience – passion, knowledge and understanding of coffee, roasting processes and origin
  3. Experience of training and development of a team
  4. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  5. Understanding of POS and inventory software
  6. Food Safe Level 1 (or higher)
  7. Serve-it-Right Certificate
  8. Ability to remain composed under pressure
  9. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  10. Willingness to accept and follow direction from management
  11. Confident in delegating tasks, coaching and directing your team

Hourly Wage: from $26.00 per hour PLUS TIPS
