CAD/PROJECT TECHNICIAN

Location: 1224 Stittsville Main Street; Facilities Department

Position Status: 1.0 Regular, 12 month work year

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week

Affiliation: OSSTF District 25 - Educational Support Professionals (ESP)

Salary range: $56,339 to $71,085 (Level 7)

Job Summary

Under the direction of the respective Project Officer , the CAD/Project Technician supports the Project Coordinator with the various phases of Construction and Facilities related projects, and prepares detailed CAD drawings and specifications for projects, updates all drawings to reflect current facility fit-up; and ensures facility records are current. This position will also coordinate and lead small construction projects, including minor renovations, alterations and/or portable accommodations and portable upgrades. Assists with Facilities tenders, audits, and updates databases. Depending on the assignment, the CAD/Project Technician may be assigned to the architectural, structural, civil, electrical, mechanical, roofing or building envelope portfolio.

Qualifications

  • Two year community college diploma in Architectural, Civil, or Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Technician program, and a minimum of three years related experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience is also considered
  • Experience using facility and ministry database programs, and the Board’s financial software are considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of relevant Board policies and procedures, architectural, mechanical and electrical technology, relevant acts, regulations and by-laws, construction techniques and material selection.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD or other C.A.D (computer aided design) software with the necessary skills to prepare clear and precise technical drawings and specifications is required.
  • Capacity to analyze and interpret drawings.
  • Experience in construction practices and service-related contracts.
  • Knowledge of computer applications, including spreadsheets, databases, electronic mail system, and other graphical software
  • Interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) to explain and clarify information to others, inside and outside the organization using tact and diplomacy.
  • Organization and time management skills to prioritize and organize work, coordinate and implement projects, and meet project deadlines.
  • Initiative and judgment skills required when conducting on-site inspections, and making recommendations regarding project change requests or dealing with unforeseen site issues.
  • Must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision; and work well in a team environment.
  • Access to reliable transportation required for travel to OCDSB sites.
