Job summary

Aecon Concessions seeks a CAD Drafter to support the Hamilton LRT (HaLRT) project as part of the Aecon Geomatics Team. This role combines geomatics with CAD skills to support planning, design, construction, and asset management activities.

The position requires 3+ years of CAD/geomatics experience, post-secondary education in Geomatics or related field, and proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation. The pay range is CAD 65,000–75,000 per year.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Geomatics, Land Surveying, or civil engineering tech.
• 3+ years of CAD drafting or geomatics experience.
• Experience with survey calculations, coordinate systems, and datum transformations.
• Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation; knowledge of Bentley, Autodesk, ESRI, and TBC is an asset.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain CAD drawings, surfaces, alignments, profiles, and other digital deliverables using Civil 3D and MicroStation.
• Prepare and review engineering, survey, and construction drawings.
• Perform coordinate transformations, datum conversions, and geospatial data integration.
• Process, analyze, and integrate LiDAR, survey, GIS, and geospatial datasets into CAD workflows.
• Maintain accurate survey records, documentation, and project submittals.
• Conduct QA/QC reviews of survey data, calculations, drawings, and deliverables.
• Coordinate with survey team, engineers, designers, and project managers to support project execution.
• Ensure CAD deliverables meet project standards and submission requirements.
• Provide survey calculations and layout data to field staff for construction activities.
• Provide back-up support for other surveying staff.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

What is the Opportunity?

What You Bring to the Team:

• Post‑secondary education in Geomatics, Land Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.


• 3+ years of experience in CAD drafting, geomatics, construction surveying, cadastral surveying, or a related field.


• Experience with survey calculations, coordinate systems, datum transformations, and geospatial data management.


• Strong understanding of survey practices, survey control networks, and construction layout.


• Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, design plans, and CAD files.


• Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, and Microsoft Office.


• Knowledge of Bentley, Autodesk, ESRI, Trimble Business Center (TBC), and point cloud processing software is considered an asset.


• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

The expected pay range for this role is $65,000 - $75,000 per year.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
