The Opportunity:

WSP is currently seeking a CAD Designer to join our Rail and Transit Team in a GTA office.Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, this position will have responsibilities including heavy and light rail transit design and providing design guidance to other team members as well as a wide range of project requirements.As a member of the Transportation Systems team, you will be given opportunities to use your transferrable skills to define processes, create execution plans, mentor the junior team members, and be the technical lead for multiple projects. You will be supported by management to develop work plans and professional skills to become a strong leader in the consulting environment.

What you can expect to do here:

  • Creation and editing of 2D and 3D drawings in compliance with Project-Specific CAD/BIM standards and transit authority requirements and/or WSP CAD Standards and detailing practices
  • Responsible for drafting of discipline specific drawings including the ability to generate sections / schedules / schematics from general arrangement drawings
  • Responsible for CAD/BIM design tasks as directed by the Project Team, such as:
  • Supporting the preparation of discipline-specific drawings for:
  • Guideway layouts, system duct banks, facility layouts, and structural sections
  • Generate sections, schedules, and schematics from general arrangements to support constructability, review gate milestones, and interface validation
  • Support integration of systems interface elements into civil base models, including:
  • Communication system equipment, power feeds, and cabling
  • Participate in QA/QC reviews, assist in coordination across disciplines and work packages
  • Support field or staging team with reference drawings for construction interface meetings
  • Be familiar with document management systems to ensure drawings are issued, filed, secured, and retrievable in an appropriate manner
  • Coordinate and support fellow CAD Technicians in workload, good detailing practice and work procedures
  • Contribute to technical capabilities of the CAD team as a whole
  • Review and monitor the production of drawings to maintain quality, accuracy and agreed timescales
  • Identify improvements (where possible) to enhance service to clients
  • Develop expertise and stay abreast of developments in relevant technical field
  • Lead by example and ensure QMS compliance across team
  • Liaise with all discipline members, sub-consultants, clients, and agencies
  • Assist with the design of roadways and railway crossings
  • Learn the fundamentals of inspection and construction field review
  • Report preparation assistance and cost estimating
  • Assist preparation and review of drawings
  • Liaise with all discipline members, sub-consultants, clients, and agencies

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • Diploma in civil engineering technology from an accredited institution
  • Applicants with 2-5yearsrelated experience would be considered an asset. New graduates are encouraged to apply
  • Understanding of CAD practices related to transportation infrastructure, particularly LRT or commuter rail environments would be considered an asset
  • Experience with design of roadway and railway crossings would be considered an asset
  • Familiar Civil 3D and AutoCAD, Bentley Inroads or Railtrack
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Excellent technical, interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred experience:

  • Exposure to systems infrastructure within a transit corridor, including communications, traction power, or signaling support infrastructure
  • Familiarity with common design-to-field coordination workflows, such as redline updates, RFIs, or construction verification sets
  • Familiarity with Metrolinx Design Standards and Design Manuals is an asset
  • Experience working under phased submission milestones
  • Knowledge of utility coordination or staging drawings is an asset
  • Experience operating in fast-paced, multi-package delivery environments with changing design inputs
