Job Summary

CIMT College is looking for a dynamic instructor for its Cabinetry and FurnitureTechnician program that can provide theoretical as well practical learning to the students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of the field
  • Instruct curriculum using only pre-authorized and provided materials
  • Teach students using a diverse and systematic plan of lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussion groups, laboratory work, case studies, independent or group projects
  • Employ appropriate adult teaching and learning strategies to communicate the subject matter to diverse students
  • Administer and marks quizzes, assignments, exams and/or other assessments to monitor and evaluate students’ progress according to guidelines and procedures
  • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student marks promptly
  • Provide feedback on student performance
  • Arrange feedback from students on the instructor, content, and facility at the end of each course
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and individual circumstances in a multi-cultural environment
  • Resolve student complaints and concerns with a positive and professional attitude
  • Maintain attendance records accurately
  • Assure that classrooms are left in a clean and orderly fashion at end of class without loss of or damage to equipment or other resources
  • Provide support to the admissions team with potential students who have questions about the program or future career
  • Participate in scheduled meetings and annual events like graduation
  • Maintain confidentiality of student privacy and information
  • Stay current in the subject matter through professional development
  • Display an attitude of teamwork and problem solving
  • Perform other related duties as required

Skills Required:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database systems
  • Knowledge and experience using AUTO CAD Level I and II is required
  • Excellent oral and written communication to present information in a way that students will understand as well as adapt to the different learning styles
  • Professional business attire and interpersonal skills to act as a mentor and role model
  • Hands on Canadian experience in the cabinet making for the courses to be taught

Qualifications:

  • Have 48 months of work experience in the vocation/field OR
  • Have 36 months of teaching experience in the vocation and 24 months of work experience in the vocation OR
  • Have 24 months of work experience in the vocation AND

o Hold a Bachelor degree from a Canadian university or an equivalent degree
o Graduate of a College of Applied Arts and Technology or equivalent
o Graduate of a registered OCC or equivalent

  • AEC/DEP or Skilled Trades Certificate (Preferred)
