Job description

Job Summary

The Cook at Phoenix Society is responsible for preparing meals and following established recipes. Key duties include preparing ingredients, adhering to the menu, and following food health and safety procedures. The position requires cooking, cleaning, assisting other kitchen staff, and delivering food in a fast‑paced environment. The Cook ensures that menu items are of high quality and are distributed in a timely fashion. From time to time, the Cook may be required to work at sister sites and the Phoenix food truck.

Reports to: Program Manager

Compensation: (Grid 9) $25.61 – $27.31

Responsibilities
  • Set up, clean, and organize work stations with all necessary supplies
  • Prepare ingredients for the day; wash, chop, and season meat, vegetables, etc.
  • Prepare and cook menu items according to nutritional standards with other kitchen staff
  • Handle multiple food orders at one time
  • Deliver menu items to clients as required
  • Store and dispose of any food properly
  • Ensure sufficient stock and inventory of food, supplies and equipment
  • Sanitize and clean work stations and kitchen supplies
  • Comply with health and safety and sanitation standards
  • Ensure that food is distributed in high quality and in a timely fashion
  • Perform other duties as required
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Red Seal certification is required
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in preparing, cooking and delivering meals
  • Satisfactory completion of a criminal records check with vulnerable sector screening is required
  • Satisfactory completion of Tuberculosis Screening form is required
  • Satisfactory completion of Employee Immunization Record form is required
  • First aid certification with CPR is required
  • Food Safe Level 1 is required
