Qualifications

• Registered Practical Nurse – Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario, in good standing
• Minimum one (1) year experience in a hospital setting preferred.
• Superb organizational planning, time management and multi-tasking skills
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, and excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
• Exceptional patient service skills
• Basic computer skills are required.
• Member of the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario an asset

Job Summary

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN)is accountable and responsible for the provision of general nursing duties and work assignments on a daily basis, according to the Practice Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), and approved standards of care of the Health Centre. Responsible for providing care to patients as well as supervision and direction to staff including and not limited to PSWs, support services, etc. on a designated unit. The RPN supports the mission, vision and values of SJHCG, as well as working towards established goals and objectives. The RPN is also responsible for following all policies, processes and procedures of SJHCG.

• Meets current identified client care needs using a systematic framework for providing care (e.g., nursing process or theory) and selects from a known range of options.
• Performs nursing interventions for which they can manage the client during and after the intervention or has access to resource’s.
• Works in consultation with RNs and others to meet care needs of more complex clients.
• Provides elements of care for highly complex clients when in close consultation with the RN directing that client’s care.
• Collaborates with client to evaluate overall goal achievement and modifies plans of care for less-complex clients.
• Identifies expected outcomes of specific interventions and modifies plan of care in collaboration with client.
• Recognizes deviations from predicted client response(s) and consults appropriately.
• Consults with RNs and other health care team members about identified client needs.
• Delivers elements of established health programs.
• Represents nursing and nursing care issues (e.g., participates in committees, workgroups, union/regulatory activities).
• Acts as a preceptor to students and novice nurses.
• Directs unregulated care providers, as appropriate.
• Provides leadership through formal and informal roles.
• Contributes to the appropriate resource utilization.
• Participates in data collection for research.
• Uses research to inform practice (e.g., practice guidelines).
