Job summary

BWXT Canada Ltd. in Cambridge, Ontario, seeks a Buyer Lead to manage supplier contracts, relationships, and performance to ensure on‑time delivery, quality, and cost competitiveness.

You will guide the supply chain group, oversee 3rd‑party manufacturing, and support project objectives under the Procurement Manager. You will lead a team of Buyers, drive cost savings, and collaborate with engineering, quality, and operations to de‑risk supply while maintaining strong internal/external stakeholder

Qualifications

  • Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Manufacturing Management, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years in procurement and supply chain, including 7+ years managing 3rd‑party contract manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of complex and nuclear manufacturing environments, components, and testing processes.
  • Proven leadership capabilities with experience developing and guiding high‑performing teams.
  • Advanced negotiation, supplier management, and contract management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve contract manufacturing performance to drive quality, innovation, and cost savings.
  • Strong analytical, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Project management experience with the ability to manage priorities and drive outcomes.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and supply chain planning, scheduling, and forecasting.
  • Skilled in risk management, including supplier risk mitigation and alternate sourcing strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Buyers, fostering accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
  • Assign and balance workloads to meet operational needs, project timelines, and service expectations.
  • Guide the team in resolving complex procurement and supplier issues, escalating critical matters when needed.
  • Oversee performance management, including goal setting, reviews, and development planning.
  • Manage strategic suppliers and support negotiations for key supply and service agreements.
  • Drive cost savings, efficiency improvements, and risk‑mitigation strategies across the supply chain.
  • Support contract development, administration, revisions, and compliance with legal and company policies.
  • Strengthen cross‑functional collaboration with engineering, operations, quality, and project teams.
  • Lead communication rhythms such as team stand‑ups, progress updates, and cross‑functional alignment.
  • Oversee order fulfillment commitments, supplier scorecards, corrective actions, and quality improvements.
  • Identify alternate sourcing strategies and opportunities to de‑risk supply and improve lead times.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and training to build a capable and engaged procurement team.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance supply chain effectiveness.

Position Overview:

As our Buyer Lead, you will manage supplier contracts, relationships, and performance to ensure on‑time delivery, product quality, and competitive costs while collaborating closely with engineering, quality, operations, and project teams to protect BWXT’s interests. Reporting to the Procurement Manager, you will guide and support the supply chain group, lead issue resolution, oversee 3rd‑party manufacturing and service providers, and ensure order fulfillment aligns with company and project objectives, with Buyer I, II, and III roles reporting directly to you.

Your Day to Day as our Buyer Lead:

The base salary range for this position in Ontario (CA-ON) at the start of employment is expected to be between $92,000 and $142,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment.
