The Buyer Planner is responsible for planning all material requirements and for the purchase of products in accordance with established company policies and procedures. They are responsible for the timely delivery of product that is required to support the production plan. They establish and maintain good company/vendor relationships. The Buyer Planner manages levels of finished work-in-process and raw inventory in accordance with company and department goals and objectives.

Measures of success :

  • Achieve inventory turnover target range as established by the company
  • Minimize slow-moving and obsolete inventory
  • Reduce costs by successfully obtaining optimal pricing through strategic sourcing

Responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Plans all material requirements including manufactured and purchased items based on sales forecasts, customer orders, and inventory levels.
  • Responsible for scheduling work in the Production, Shipping, and Receiving Departments, including review of suggestions and creation of POs.
  • Purchases products in accordance with company policies, seeking bids, screening vendors, and ensuring quality and price competitiveness.
  • Ensures timely delivery of products to support the production schedule, arranging transportation as needed.
  • Develops and monitors purchase orders based on MRP and negotiated terms.
  • Works with customs brokers and import/export specialists to ensure compliance with import regulations.
  • Develops corrective actions for late or short shipments.
  • Assists in resolving rejected materials and incoming inspection issues.
  • Advises management of price changes and assists in vendor negotiations.
  • Maintains professional relationships with suppliers and encourages cost-reduction innovations.
  • Issues manufacturing orders to support forecasts and schedules.
  • Reviews and follows up on on-order and in-process materials to prevent shortages and delays.
  • Maintains MRP database details for each product line.
  • Enters accurate costing and performs cost roll processes, updating standard costs annually.
  • Maintains supplier price lists in ERP system, updating as necessary.
  • Forecasts key items monthly and reviews sales trends to adjust inventory levels.
  • Participates in monthly S&OP meetings and weekly finance meetings to resolve issues.
  • Provides inventory analysis reports, including overdue orders and backlog.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Required :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or Operations Management
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Buyer Planner in a manufacturing environment
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Experience with MRP, JIT, and lean manufacturing practices
  • Experience with international logistics, customs, and compliance
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Understanding of inventory transactions and their financial impact
  • Analytical skills to investigate inventory processing issues

This role primarily involves office work with computers and occasional visits to production areas requiring safety gear. The position reports daily to the site and has no direct reports.

Full compensation packages depend on experience and certifications. Salary range: $62,329 - $81,028 CAD.
