Join to apply for the Buyer- Big Island role at Georgia Pacific.

We are looking for a contribution-motivated Buyer to support our Georgia-Pacific Big Island site. The role involves purchasing activities in a high-volume, time-critical environment. The buyer will gain experience with Maintenance, Repair, and Operating (MRO) supplies, direct materials, repair & return, equipment spare parts, and outside services from external vendors. This role reports directly to the Purchasing Manager.

This position will be onsite at our Big Island facility.

Note: This role is not eligible for Visa Sponsorship.

Our Team

Georgia-Pacific’s Strategic Sourcing & Procurement (SS&P) organization manages strategic category sourcing and procurement of critical supplies and materials that support our facilities. The SS&P team partners with business units to improve decision-making and capture savings and efficiency opportunities.

What You Will Do
  • Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Use the purchasing system to process purchase orders from requisitions.
  • Ensure contractual documents reflect accurate terms and conditions, including payment, freight, incoterms, and other key commercial terms.
  • Issue requests for quotations, analyze quotes, negotiate prices and terms, and select suppliers based on value.
  • Utilize strategic supply agreements to maximize value, especially with GP’s strategic partners.
  • Collaborate with requestors to understand requirements and specifications.
  • Assist with procurement and inventory processes, including invoice reconciliations and inventory reviews.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure timely delivery and address issues.
  • Maintain a high level of customer focus and urgency.
  • Resolve accounts payable exceptions and improve procurement processes.
  • Use inventory reporting tools to manage parts and supplies.
  • Manage time effectively to accomplish goals and prioritize tasks.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Procurement experience in related fields such as project management, maintenance, warehousing, inventory, or supply chain.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and data analysis.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience with warehouse inventory buying and operations.
  • Knowledge of purchasing procedures, freight payables, incoterms, and delivery terms.
  • Contract negotiation experience at local or regional levels.
  • Experience in manufacturing or maintenance environments.
