Job description

New Flyer is North America's heavy-duty transit bus leader, providing sustainable mobility solutions through transit buses, technology, and infrastructure. A subsidiary of NFI Group, New Flyer has a 90+ year legacy of innovation and is the only manufacturer offering all three types of zero-emission transit buses, with over 1,900 delivered to date. Serving all 25 of the largest transit agencies in North America, New Flyer supports over 35,000 heavy-duty transit buses operated by approximately 500 agencies.

Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Buyer will execute the material supply plan to achieve a 100% build-in-station target for suppliers in a timely manner. The role involves maintaining supplier communications to support the business plan.

Responsibilities
  1. Complete workload accurately and timely to support departmental targets on PO creation, delivery, requisitions, variances, inventory levels, invoices, etc.
  2. Develop and maintain professional relationships with suppliers and internal customers to ensure proper task execution and continuous improvement.
  3. Resolve supply-related issues and find creative solutions for parts shortages.
  4. Prepare business cases and recovery plans with suppliers and internal teams, including communication plans for impacted groups.
  5. Identify and implement improvement opportunities.
  6. Conduct supplier visits and audits.
  7. Challenge forecasts and planning parameters, monitor PO/inventory health.
  8. Negotiate prices, discounts, and delivery constraints proactively.
  9. Submit engineering documentation to suppliers and support first article documentation.
  10. Assist traffic personnel with shipment documentation.
  11. Ensure supplier adherence to contracts and agreements.
  12. Participate in negotiations representing purchasing.
  13. Proactively identify roadblocks, providing high-quality information with relevant references.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, industrial engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5-8 years of purchasing experience in manufacturing.
  • Advanced MS Office skills, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong knowledge of MRP systems and inventory planning.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Supply Chain Management certification is an asset.
