Job summary

Nasittuq Corporation in Ottawa or North Bay seeks a Buyer to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of materials and services for Canada's North operations. You will collaborate with internal stakeholders and suppliers to support operational readiness while adhering to procurement policies and security requirements.

The role requires a post-secondary education in supply chain or related field, plus experience in purchasing, with ERP exposure and strong vendor management.

Qualifications

  • Three years of purchasing, procurement, or logistics experience in high-volume environments.
  • Strong understanding of procurement principles and vendor management.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced settings with accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Maximo or Oracle is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Review, approve, and recommend purchase orders for operations and sealift activities.
  • Assist Contracts with RFQs, RFPs, and Standing Offer Agreements, including evaluation and award recommendations.
  • Conduct vendor evaluations and maintain performance documentation.
  • Support system improvements for purchasing and inventory management.
  • Coordinate procurement of materials for sealift and project activities.
  • Develop relationships with northern suppliers to ensure value and compliance.
  • Ensure handling and compliance with WHMIS, TDG, and hazardous materials.
  • Support special projects and cross-functional initiatives.

Where You Will Be Working

This position may be based either at the North Warning System Support Centre (NWSSC) in North Bay, or at the Contract Management Office (CMO) in Ottawa. Both locations play a critical role in supporting operations across Canada’s North and Arctic regions.

Why This Role

The Buyer plays a key role in supporting the North Warning System, one of Canada’s most critical northern infrastructure networks. Based in either Ottawa, Ontario or North Bay, Ontario, this position is responsible for ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials, equipment, and services that support operations across Canada’s North and Arctic regions. Working closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers, the Buyer helps maintain operational readiness by securing high-quality goods and services that deliver the best value while ensuring compliance with contractual and procurement requirements. This is an opportunity to contribute to a mission-critical program while collaborating with a diverse team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

What You'll Do
  • Review, approve, and recommend purchase orders for operational requirements, project-related Task Authorizations, and sealift activities while ensuring compliance with company policies and procurement best practices.
  • Support the Contracts Department in the development and administration of RFQs, RFPs, and Standing Offer Agreements, including evaluation of submissions, award recommendations, implementation, and ongoing agreement management.
  • Conduct vendor evaluations, audits, and corrective action activities while maintaining accurate vendor selection and performance documentation.
  • Identify and support system improvements related to purchasing and inventory management processes, coordinating updates and corrective actions as required.
  • Coordinate the procurement of materials and equipment for sealift and project activities.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, particularly northern vendors, ensuring effective communication and successful procurement outcomes.
  • Ensure materials requiring specialized handling are shipped and delivered in accordance with applicable WHMIS, TDG, and hazardous materials regulations.
  • Contribute to special projects and perform additional duties as required to support business objectives, the North Warning System mission, and organizational initiatives.
What You Bring
  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of PMAC Level 2 (or equivalent supply chain designation coursework) is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of purchasing, procurement, materials management, logistics, or supply chain experience in a high-volume environment.
  • Strong understanding of procurement principles, purchasing practices, and vendor management.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and quality.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across teams and with external suppliers.
  • Demonstrated customer service orientation and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a team environment.
  • Experience working in cross-cultural environments and building relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of Maximo, Oracle, or other ERP systems is considered an asset.
  • Project management experience or knowledge is considered an asset.
