M-D Canada is seeking a new Buyer to join our Supply Chain team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the entire purchasing process, from strategic sourcing and contract negotiation to ensuring accurate inventory levels and timely delivery of materials. We're looking for someone with a keen eye for market trends, excellent negotiation skills, and a knack for building strong supplier relationships. This role collaborates closely with various departments to meet organizational objectives and drive cost-effective purchasing strategies that support our production and sales goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Initiates purchase orders for parts, services, and/or special tools; arranges for submission and inspection of sample products as required; maintains close coordination with Marketing and Operations to ensure timely execution of product and services sourcing activities.
  • Manage the entire purchasing process from requisition to delivery. Issue and manage purchase orders (POs) daily, ensuring correct pricing, quantity, and delivery dates.
  • Maintain the integrity of inventory reports, ensuring accurate vendor and pricing information. Review safety stock levels quarterly to prevent overages or outages.
  • Monitor vendor stock levels and review material requirements daily from sales forecasts.
  • Interviews and confers with current and prospective suppliers to determine supply capabilities, transportation logistics, inventory control, and management; negotiates prices and delivery terms with guidance from the Director of Purchasing for assigned responsibilities.
  • Oversee offshore procurement, including reviewing sales forecasts, placing international orders, and managing all related.
  • Evaluate and onboard new global vendors for raw materials and finished goods, obtaining samples for evaluation.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with all vendors. Address and resolve all non-conformance issues with factories and suppliers.
  • Visits suppliers’ facilities to qualify them as new sources and assists in resolving production, design, quality, and/or delivery problems.
  • Contacts vendors with discrepancies in quantity and quality.
  • Work closely with others in the purchasing function and review opportunities for continuous and business improvement.
  • Works closely with quality control, marketing, and receiving departments to ensure materials are correct upon arrival.
  • Support the purchasing function and other relevant departments and communicate any supply problems that may impact business operations.
  • Ensure orders arrive by the requested due date and follow up on late orders.
  • Compliance with safety and corporate guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management or a related Business degree.
  • 2+ years’ experience in inventory management, purchasing, or a related supply chain role.
  • 2+ years' experience working in a manufacturing setting
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Occasional travel may be required for vendor meetings, industry events, or other business needs.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:

  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Knowledge of global sourcing and international logistics.
  • Understanding of NAFTA regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate pricing and terms with vendors.
  • Proactive problem-solving and a continuous improvement mindset.
