Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Planning Manager, the Material Planner coordinates inventory of materials in alignment with the production planned and weekly schedules, ensuring materials are aligned with production schedules. Responsibilities include placing purchase orders, following up on confirmations, and coordinating with internal departments on past due and expedited shipments to minimize disruptions to the production schedule. This position works in a team environment and requires a self-starter attitude and self-direction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review MRP messages and generate purchase orders according to requirements.
  • Coordinate timely deliveries to the plant based on schedule requirements using Transportation Portal or direct vendor communication.
  • Maintain item master parameters such as lead time, minimum order, and safety stock.
  • Provide effective dates for material changes and new products.
  • Manage inventory issues, schedule changes, and cancellations to reduce disruptions.
  • Monitor inventory levels to revise purchase plans and open POs, avoiding excess inventory, and issue IDRs for write-offs of expired or discontinued materials.
  • Collaborate with QA to follow up on vendor quality issues.
  • Work with Inventory Clerk on vendor return processing for credits.
  • Manage subcontracting purchases with third-party vendors.
  • Coordinate with QA on required samples for lab batching.
  • Complete all safety and plant training as required.
  • Review AP issues and vendor payments for 3-way matching.
  • Participate in plant LEAN initiatives such as 5S, Kaizen, and 5 Why investigations.
  • Employ safe work habits and comply with all safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • College diploma or post-secondary education with a focus on Supply Chain/Purchasing; relevant work experience considered.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a manufacturing environment.
  • Intermediate Excel skills.
  • SAP/MRP experience.
  • APIC Certification is an asset.
