Job summary

Project XIII Inc has partnered with a leading engineering-focused solution provider specializing in machined castings, fabrications, and assemblies. Our partner is seeking a Buyer to join their team.

The location for this role is Guelph, Ontario.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Purchasing Supervisor, this role is responsible for ensuring the uninterrupted supply of materials and services to support staff across departments. It combines elements of purchasing and inventory control.

The successful candidate is a highly motivated, self-directed individual capable of multi-tasking with a high level of personal and professional ethics. The ability to work effectively in a fast-growing and fast-paced environment is crucial.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Use ERP systems (Visual Manufacturing and IQM) to monitor customer demand and manufacturing work order requirements. Review inventory counts and issue purchase orders accordingly.
  2. Ensure timely delivery of parts to the manufacturing facility, including ordering, expediting, and liaising with department personnel.
  3. Create purchase requisitions for services or products as needed. Follow up with suppliers on delivery dates and order confirmations.
  4. Ensure purchase order delivery dates are accurate in the system, with confirmations from suppliers. Update system with due dates, pricing, quantities, and terms.
  5. Meet cost reduction targets for MRO materials and services to promote cost competitiveness, involving all divisions when possible.
  6. Participate in benchmarking processes to achieve cost reductions, including vendor re-sourcing and negotiation of pricing, terms, and conditions.
  7. Establish, negotiate, and document annual service supply contracts.
  8. Review past due reports daily, follow up on late orders, and confirm deliveries with vendors.
  9. Provide backup support for designated buyers when away.
  10. Manage relationships with key suppliers and internal teams, anticipate demand, escalate risks, and propose solutions or corrective actions.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management.
  • At least 2 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Post-secondary education in Materials Management, Purchasing, or related fields. Certification through PMAC is preferred.
