Job Purpose

The Buyer is responsible for managing procurement activities to ensure the timely acquisition of quality materials and services at competitive prices. This role involves analyzing purchasing trends, sourcing and evaluating suppliers, negotiating contracts, and maintaining optimal inventory levels.

Duties And Responsibilities

The associate’s primary functions and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Analyze internal purchasing trends and forecast departmental needs to optimize procurement strategies.
  • Process requisitions efficiently and provide management with regular updates on order status.
  • Monitor and update inventory levels in the replenishment stock area, ensuring optimal stock availability.
  • Assess supplier options based on pricing, quality, and reliability to select the most suitable vendors.
  • Source and procure necessary products while verifying the quality and availability of existing stock across locations.
  • Ensure timely product deliveries and enforce compliance with purchase contracts.
  • Generate and analyze reports on purchasing activities, budgets, and internal satisfaction to refine procurement strategies.
  • Identify and establish relationships with new suppliers while maintaining effective partnerships with existing vendors.
  • Manage urgent procurement needs in collaboration with internal departments to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Negotiate and maintain favourable terms, pricing, and contracts with suppliers.
  • Oversee supplier performance, ensuring adherence to delivery timelines and service agreements.
  • Conduct Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) with all suppliers to assess performance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
  • Follow Health and Safety rules and regulations.
  • Must follow Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety, and Food Defense guidelines.
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, BSc/BA in business administration or relevant field will be considered a plus.
  • Proven experience as a buyer or relevant role.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office; working knowledge of purchasing software an advantage
  • Demonstrable aptitude in effective negotiating.
  • Up to speed with purchasing best practices.
  • Familiarity with market research, data analysis and forecasting techniques.

Working conditions

  • Always work indoors.
  • Travel to all facilities as required.
  • Straight shift work.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
