Job description

  • Develop and execute a strategic buying plan that aligns with the company's goals and customer preferences.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiating terms, pricing, and delivery schedules to optimize inventory levels and profitability.
  • Continuously monitor market trends, product innovations, and competitor offerings to stay informed about industry developments.
  • Analyze sales data, inventory turnover, and customer feedback to identify opportunities for product assortment improvements and cost-saving initiatives both in-store and online.
  • Inform management teams on the development of purchases with the various suppliers, arrival dates, irregularities, and changes that may occur in stock orders and their delivery.
  • Attend trade shows, product showcases, and vendor meetings to source new and exciting products for the store.
  • Collaborate with the store operations and e-commerce teams to plan and execute promotions and marketing campaigns related to the product category.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchase orders, receipts, and vendor communications.
  • Ensure that products meet quality standards and adhere to safety regulations.
  • Manage and optimize inventory levels, including stock levels, product assortment, and clearance items.
  • Provide product knowledge and training to the sales team to enhance customer service and sales performance.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry certifications, trends, and best practices related to sporting goods
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a Buyer or in a similar role ideally within the sporting goods industry.
  • Progressive experience and well-versed in brand/category management, procurement, contract negotiation and vendor management within the retail industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of various sports equipment, apparel, and accessories.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Merchandising, or a related field (preferred).
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and trends.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Creative thinking and the ability to identify unique product opportunities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Passion for sports and a customer-focused attitude.
