Granville Island is a 38 acre site, with 40 buildings varying from the Granville Island Public Market to modern redeveloped structures with new services, to old factories that are used for parking. Outdoor sections include roads and parking lots surfaced with asphalt, paving stones and concrete, grassy areas and trees, playgrounds, tennis and outdoor basketball courts, public seating and eating areas, boardwalks, ponds, a water park and a rocky shoreline. Marine services include one public and two private docks and two ferry landings.

Annually, there are more than 11 million visits to Granville Island. The Public Market is a key destination, well known both locally and internationally. Research shows that the majority of visitors to the Island visit the Public Market.
