Job Summary
Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the Business Solutions Specialist leads the assessment of functional unit (HR, Payroll, Finance, Student) needs within the College’s Enterprise Resources Planning system ( ERP ), Customer Relationship Management ( CRM ), Learning Management System ( LMS ) and related business systems, applications and integrations. The Business Solutions Specialist will be responsible for process analysis, requirements and design, as well as functional support for integrations, reporting and testing, as well as production of technical and training documentation.
Job Summary

The Business Solutions Specialist will be responsible for process analysis, requirements and design, as well as functional support for integrations, reporting and testing, as well as production of technical and training documentation.
Specific Duties
- Provides expert technical support for the College’s business systems, including providing process improvement recommendations, requirements gathering and analysis, managing functional issues, resolving technical problems, managing user accounts and performing related tasks to support College operations.
- Prepares and maintains accurate, concise and accessible documentation related to the configuration and maintenance of systems and applications, as well as developing accessible training materials (documentation, videos, wikis, etc.).
- Liaises with functional areas and other Business Solutions Specialists to support College-wide process development and solutions technical support.
- Liaises with others within the Information Technology Services ( ITS ) team to ensure system maintenance and upgrades are tested thoroughly and installed in production environments.
- Responsible for developing reports for functional areas.
- Ensures the functions of assigned systems, applications and integrations are built and configured in compliance with College policies, service agreements, FOIPPA and other agreements.
- Works closely with the other ITS team members to design and maintain custom workflows.
- Works closely with the ITS team, liaising with functional areas on projects related to ERP , SQL reporting, development work and systems administration, ensuring peak optimization and utilization of systems and platforms.
- Supports ITS with data conversion mapping.
- Build and maintains good working relationship with functional units, Business Solutions Specialist team members, the ITS team and vendors.
- Collaborates with the Policy, Planning and Strategy for project management on projects and implementations.
- Provides back-up support to other Business Solutions Specialist positions.
- Provides technical training on system upgrades and features.
- Collaborates with interested parties on requirements analysis and leads change management and project management for business solutions.
- Advises the ITS team of potential maintenance or systems issues that could impact performance or security.
- You will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College and in supporting the aspirations and needs of our learners.
- You will promote a positive work atmosphere by interacting and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) specializing in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related discipline.
- 3 years or more Experience in business process analysis, reporting, technical support, or ERP support – preferably in a post-secondary environment; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Proficiency in implementing and configuring systems (i.e. ERP , CRM , LMS ).
- Proven analytical, diagnostic, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret data and generate actionable insights using tools like Excel, SQL or other data visualization or data reporting software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex material in plain language, including writing technical documentation for processes, configurations and user manuals.
- Strong project and change management skills.
- Knowledge of post-secondary operations (student lifecycle, financial processes and / or human resources processes) is considered a strong asset.
- Ability to self-direct and work independently, exercising good judgement and discretion.
- Ability to work as part of cross-functional teams, collaborating with various internal parties and end-users, exercising tact and diplomacy.
- Strong ability to translate functional needs to technical requirements, using creativity to find innovative solutions.
- Skills in testing solutions to ensure they meet business requirements and function correctly.
- Ability to work in a fast-changing business and technology environment.
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to work closely with various departments and clearly communicate technical solutions in non-technical terms.
- Understanding policies, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, including FOIPPA .
