Job description

When shopping on Amazon, customers care about price (low!), selection (more!), and delivery - they want it fast! They want it free! But they also want to manage their environmental footprint, with packages arriving in fewer boxes, and more. The Promise team sets the expectation for when items arrive. The delivery promises we make are key to acquiring and retaining customers, influencing Amazon’s short and long-term profitability. We serve as the interface between customer expectations and Amazon's industry-leading fulfillment capabilities. We are part of the Supply Chain Optimization Technology (SCOT) group that develops systems to optimize inventory acquisition, placement, transportation, and fulfillment to enable fast delivery.

The Promise team seeks an exceptional Business Intelligence Engineer with broad technical skills to develop analytics and reporting capabilities that enhance the customer experience. This includes surfacing signals from our fulfillment network to display more relevant offers (e.g., ranking faster shipping products higher), creating new customer experiences (e.g., messaging items that ship with items in your cart), and nudging customers towards lower-cost, lower-carbon fulfillment options (e.g., highlighting locally available offers).

The ideal candidate is highly analytical, a critical thinker with advanced problem-solving, data mining, and scripting skills (Python or Scala). They will collaborate with economists, research scientists, data engineers, product managers, and software developers to make data-driven decisions for Amazon's retail and operations teams. Responsibilities include managing metrics, dashboards, and measurement across Promise platforms and fulfillment signal products to improve inventory, fulfillment, and carrier capabilities. Your work will directly impact Amazon's business and customer promise.

Key job responsibilities

  1. Defining, developing, and maintaining automated critical business and operational reports.
  2. Analyzing historical data to identify trends and providing insights to support decision-making, including presenting results and recommendations.
  3. Performing ad hoc deep dives to support the business and identify opportunities.
  4. Collaborating with software development teams to implement analytics systems and data structures supporting large-scale analysis and machine learning models.
  5. Mining and manipulating data from databases, simulation results, and log files.
  6. Identifying data needs and leading data quality improvement projects.
  7. Understanding Amazon’s broad range of data resources, when and how to use them.
