Job description

We are looking for an Intermediate Business Intelligence Analyst for a 6-month contract position, with possible extensions in Edmonton, Alberta. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

This is an onsite position. Standard Hours of work are 08:15 – 16:30 Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours per week.

Role Description

As a member of the business intelligence team, this role involves analyzing and transforming diverse datasets into actionable insights and information products using tools like SAP and Power BI. The position supports both internal and external stakeholders by gathering requirements, ensuring data quality, and delivering timely, high-standard BI solutions in a collaborative, multi-vendor environment.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute as part of a team, responsible for delivering business intelligence capabilities to support internal and external department stakeholders’ information needs.
  • Deliver work products based on various sets of data including (but not limited to) education, post-secondary education, apprenticeship, finance and census data.
  • Work with a selection of technology products (such as SAP, Power BI) that must address the ever-changing technology and increasing appetite for information from internal and external department stakeholders.
  • Must be able to work effectively with a team made up of in-house staff and contract resources.
  • Analyze data and prepare information results.
  • Gather and document requirements.
  • Design and construct information products.
  • Capture business and technical metadata for information products.
  • Gather requirements for control processes including schedule management, status reporting, issues, risk, and change management at the program level.
  • Produce deliverables within specified quality standards and timeline.
  • Define and performing quality assurance on business intelligence deliverables.
  • Respond to ad-hoc information inquiries.
  • Perform data analysis, data quality audits/reviews, statistical analysis and data mining.
  • Escalate issues and risks, as appropriate.
  • Work within a multi-vendor/staff environment.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Post-Secondary degree, diploma or certificate in Computer Science or related field of study
  • 4 years experience with articulating and translating technical language for non-technical customers both verbally and in writing.
  • 4 years experience with presenting data in queries, dashboards, and reports in a way that is easy to understand.
  • 4 years direct hands-on experience designing, developing, and optimizing advanced Power BI solutions that transform regulated and complex datasets into actionable insights for policy, operations and executive reporting
  • 4 years experience planning, conducting, and analyzing findings from, creating representations of, and reporting on co-design workshops with service users.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Relevant post-secondary education in areas of supply chain, procurement, business or a related field, Acceptable education includes degrees, diplomas and certificates (minimum 2 year diploma)
  • Ability to collaborate and work with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to interact and communicate professionally with a diverse group.
  • Ability to think critically to select the most appropriate input data, modeling method, indicated variables, and techniques.
  • 2 years experience in public sector procurement processes with an organization of similar size and complexity
  • 4 years experience with PowerBI, PowerView, Microsoft SQL Reporting, and Analytical Services.
  • 2 years experience working with large government datasets.
