Objective

The Business Development Specialist is responsible for driving sales growth and expanding the market reach of our specialty pet food products in the US and Canadian markets. They will identify and pursue new business opportunities, build and maintain relationships with customers, and achieve sales targets. A deep understanding of the North American market and strong communication and negotiation skills are essential.

Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

  • Understand US trade practices.
  • Research and target potential US/Canadian clients, distributors, and retail partners in the specialty pet food space.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with key decision-makers in retail chains, pet stores, e-commerce platforms, and distributors across the US and Canada.
  • Develop and implement sales strategies to increase the company's US and Canadian presence.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities by analyzing market trends, competitor activities, and customer needs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with existing and potential customers through regular communication, meetings, and follow-up.
  • Conduct sales presentations and product demonstrations.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, R&D, and Operations teams to ensure readiness for customer satisfaction and sales success.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare sales reports and forecasts, providing insights and recommendations to management.
  • Negotiate and close deals with favorable terms.
  • Travel within Canada and the US as needed to meet customers, attend trade shows, and industry events.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, international relations, or related field; additional certifications in international business development are a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of success in international business development, preferably in pet food or CPG grocery sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of US and Canadian markets, including cultural nuances and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience launching products into new markets or expanding sales channels.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building rapport and negotiating.
  • Analytical skills for conducting market research and data analysis.
  • Results-oriented with a proven track record of meeting targets.
  • Experience with digital tools for market access, lead management, and reporting.
  • Valid passport and willingness to travel approximately 50-60%.
