Job description

Location: Toronto (hybrid) | Compensation: $60,000 – $80,000 CAD OTE (60/40 base/variable) | Openings: 2

Who We Are

CV Labs is the product and growth studio inside CanadaVisa, Canada's immigration engine. Our ecosystem reaches 1.5 million visitors per month, powers the country's largest immigration peer community, and is built on a licensed law firm that has practiced since 1976.

We're building an AI-native law firm — software does the repetitive work behind the scenes, and a small number of exceptional humans hold the trust and the judgment. Think of us as the best parts of a rocketship with the credibility of an institution.

The moment

A recent change in Canadian law means a large number of people have discovered they may already be Canadian citizens— they just have to prove it, and they want a real law firm to help them do it. It's a once-in-a-generation moment for one of our practice areas, and demand has been growing faster than anything in the firm's 50-year history.

A small team of lawyers converts that demand through short scheduled phone consultations — and the consultation motion works remarkably well. The bottleneck isn't the consults. It's everything around them: the first outreach, the booking, the follow-up, the texts, the no-show rescues. Right now, expensive lawyer hours are being spent on coordination a great BDR would run better.

That's where you come in. You'd be one of the first two hires into a brand-new function — designed with the lawyers themselves — whose whole job is keeping their calendars full and making sure no interested family ever falls through the cracks.

What you'll actually do

One important thing to understand about this role: to our clients, you are the lawyer's assistant. Our clientele is older, careful, and scam-wary — they chose a 50-year-old law firm precisely because it's real, and they Google the people who contact them. So you'll work under your real name, with a real signature, introduced as the named assistant to the lawyer you support. Internally, you're a BDR running a pipeline. Externally, you're the warm, credible human who makes it easy for a nervous 68-year-old to talk to a lawyer they'll be glad they talked to. Both are true, and the second one is why this works.

Day to day, you'll own everything around the lawyers' consultations so they can focus on the conversations themselves:

  • Outreach and booking. When someone raises their hand, you reach out fast — email, phone, text — and get them booked. You keep the lawyers' calendars full and organized.

  • Follow-up ownership. You run the follow-up on every conversation so no interested family ever falls through the cracks. This is the single biggest thing the lawyers want off their plates, and it's where deals are won.

  • Rescues. Cancellations, no-shows, threads that go quiet — you pick up the phone, find out what happened, and get things back on track. Phone comfort isn’t optional here; the team wants people they're proud to have on the lines.

  • Right hand to your lawyer. Drafting routine replies for their review, helping them prioritize each morning, and handling simple client questions so they never do informal support work.

One bright line, and it’s a feature of the job, not a restriction: you never give legal advice. Eligibility questions, legal questions, most pricing questions — those belong to the lawyer, and the consultation is where they get answered. Your craft is the warm handoff: making the answer feel worth a short call, never giving it away. We’ll train you on exactly how.

Your scoreboard

The lawyers' calendars — full, consecutive, and nothing falling through the cracks. Concretely: consultations booked and completed per week, our (very high) show rate held, follow-ups done on time, and response speed on inbound replies and texts. No revenue quota — your variable comp is tied to the machine you run (booked consultations that show), not to closing.

Who we're looking for
  • A killer communicator in writing. You’ll write to anxious 65-year-olds all day; your emails are warm, clear, and professional without a template showing.

  • Confident and personable on the phone. You genuinely like talking to people, including people who are nervous, chatty, or skeptical.

  • Relentlessly organized. This is a calendar-and-queue job at real volume. You take pride in zero balls dropped.

  • Hungry and fast. You treat speed-to-lead as a sport, you follow up without being reminded, and you want your numbers on a board.

  • Tool-fluent. CRMs, shared calendars, SMS platforms, AI drafting assistants — you either know them or pick them up in days. We work AI-natively here and expect you to.

  • Patient and empathetic with an older, cautious clientele — and discreet, because you’ll see personal information inside a law firm.

  • Ambitious. You’re not looking for a desk to sit at; you’re looking for a door in.

  • AI-native. You’ve used Claude, ChatGPT, and the tools built on them, and you’re excited by the ability to use them to do more with less.

Bonus points: high-trust coordination experience (law firm, medical office, financial services front desk), customer-facing scheduling, French, or familiarity with Close CRM.

Where this goes

This is the ground floor of a new function at a company growing extremely fast — and we build careers around people, not org charts. Strong performers in this seat will have real options as the company grows: the sales track (several of our best closers started in coordination-heavy roles elsewhere), revenue operations, or the product and operations side of the business. You’ll be working daily with lawyers, growth leadership, and the COO — the people who decide what you get to do next will be the same people watching you work.

Compensation and process
  • $60,000 – $80,000 CAD on-target earnings, structured roughly 60/40 base to variable, with variable tied to booked-and-completed consultations

  • Contract to start, with the intent to convert as the function proves out — we’re honest that this is a pilot of a new role, and the two founding hires will shape what it becomes

  • Toronto-based, hybrid

  • Flexible vacation, and a team that measures you on output

  • Interviews will include members of the legal sales team you’d support — they co-designed this role and they’ll help choose who fills it

Why CV Labs

Because this is the rare entry point where the work matters immediately: every consultation you book is a family finding out something remarkable about who they are, and every hour you save a lawyer is an hour spent helping someone claim it. You’ll be employee-one of a function the lawyers asked for, at a firm with 50 years of trust and a growth curve that looks like a typo — with the people who run the company close enough to notice what you’re capable of.

If you’re the person who answers fast, follows up without fail, and makes strangers feel taken care of — we’d like to meet you.
