Job description

Our client is a globally recognized engineering and manufacturing organization that develops advanced technologies used on some of the world's largest and most technically demanding infrastructure projects. Their engineered mechanical solutions are specified by consulting engineers, municipalities, utilities, EPC firms, and contractors to improve project safety, accelerate construction schedules, reduce lifecycle costs, and simplify long-term maintenance.

Supporting critical water, wastewater, transportation, energy, and industrial infrastructure across North America, the organization partners with engineering firms and project owners from the earliest stages of project development. Their technical expertise, engineering resources, digital design support, and value-engineering capabilities help customers reduce installation risk, improve constructability, and deliver reliable infrastructure that serves communities for decades.

As continued investment in municipal infrastructure, water treatment, wastewater facilities, pump stations, transmission systems, and climate resiliency projects accelerates throughout British Columbia, our client is expanding its Infrastructure team by adding a Business Development Manager focused on influencing major capital projects throughout the region.

This is a consultative business development position where success is achieved long before construction begins. Rather than selling products through traditional transactional sales, you will become a trusted technical resource to consulting engineers, municipalities, utilities, project owners, EPC organizations, and design teams, helping specify innovative engineered solutions during the design phase of major infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities
Strategic Business Development
  • Develop and execute a territory growth strategy targeting municipal infrastructure, water, wastewater, and related civil infrastructure projects.
  • Identify and cultivate opportunities with consulting engineering firms, municipalities, utilities, project owners, and EPC organizations.
  • Build relationships that position the company's engineered solutions during project planning and design.
  • Track upcoming capital projects and position the organization early in the specification process.
  • Develop account strategies that create long-term specification opportunities across multiple stakeholders.
  • Work closely with consulting engineers to provide technical guidance during system design.
  • Assist engineering teams with product selection, constructability reviews, and application recommendations.
  • Support specification development that improves installation efficiency, operational reliability, and long-term asset performance.
  • Deliver engineering presentations, lunch-and-learn seminars, and technical education sessions.
  • Remain current on municipal standards, industry specifications, and evolving infrastructure technologies.
Project & Stakeholder Management
  • Build relationships with owners, engineers, contractors, utilities, municipalities, and construction teams throughout the entire project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate activities between engineering, operations, contractors, distributors, and internal technical resources.
  • Monitor project progression from conceptual design through construction and commissioning.
  • Maintain visibility on project opportunities using CRM and project tracking systems.
Value Engineering & Technical Consulting
  • Demonstrate how their engineered mechanical systems reduce installation labour, improve worker safety, eliminate hot work, minimize project risk, and reduce total installed cost.
  • Develop business cases that quantify schedule improvements, lifecycle savings, maintenance advantages, and operational efficiencies.
  • Support customers with technical documentation, design assistance, and practical construction solutions.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering specialists to develop customized recommendations for complex applications.
Market Development
  • Represent the organization at industry conferences, municipal associations, consulting engineering events, and technical seminars.
  • Develop market intelligence regarding infrastructure funding, major capital programs, and emerging municipal projects.
  • Identify trends within water treatment, wastewater treatment, pumping systems, transmission pipelines, reservoirs, and utility infrastructure.
  • Expand relationships that create recurring specification opportunities across the region.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineering designation or advanced business education is considered an asset.
Experience
  • Several years of business development, technical sales, consulting, engineering, or project management experience within municipal infrastructure, civil construction, water, wastewater, utilities, or engineered mechanical systems.
  • Experience working with consulting engineers, municipalities, project owners, utilities, or EPC organizations.
  • Demonstrated success influencing engineering specifications and developing long-term client relationships.
  • Knowledge of municipal infrastructure procurement and project development processes is highly desirable.
Technical Skills
  • Strong understanding of water treatment facilities, wastewater systems, pumping stations, process piping, transmission systems, or related infrastructure.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and CRM skills.
  • Comfortable delivering presentations and facilitating technical discussions with engineering audiences.
Personal Attributes

You are a relationship-builder who enjoys earning credibility through technical knowledge rather than hard selling. You thrive in consultative environments where success comes from influencing projects years before construction begins. You are naturally curious, commercially minded, highly organized, and motivated by developing long-term partnerships that create lasting value for customers.

The Opportunity
  • Represent industry-leading engineered infrastructure technologies trusted on major infrastructure projects worldwide.
  • Influence high-profile municipal and utility projects that shape communities across Western Canada.
  • Work with consulting engineers, municipalities, utilities, EPC firms, and major project owners.
  • Receive extensive technical training, engineering support, and ongoing professional development.
  • Join an organization with a long-standing reputation for engineering innovation, technical excellence, and customer partnership.
  • Competitive compensation package including a base salary, annual performance incentives, company vehicle, comprehensive benefits, retirement savings program, and excellent long-term career growth opportunities.
