Job description

Our client is a trusted logistics partner delivering tailored solutions across industries, serving parts of Ontario and Quebec. They are seeking a driven and entrepreneurial Business Development Manager to join their team based in Ottawa, Ontario.

This is a high-impact, field-based role focused on acquiring new customers and expanding our client’s footprint across the region. As the Business Development Manager, you will spend most of your time in the field and will be responsible for identifying and closing recurring business opportunities. Reporting directly to the President, you’ll play a key role in shaping the organization’s growth trajectory.

Some of your key responsibilities in this role will include:

  • New Business Development: Identifying and pursuing new clients across industries requiring on-demand or scheduled logistics solutions.
  • Territory Management: Actively prospecting and hunting for new business across Ottawa and surrounding areas.
  • Client Engagement: Conducting in-person meetings, cold calls, and presentations to promote our client’s value proposition.
  • Solution Design & Pricing: Conducting thorough consultative sales conversations to uncover client needs followed by developing tailored logistics solutions and accurate quotes based on vehicle type, mileage, labor, and fuel costs for clients.
  • CRM & Pipeline Management: Maintaining a robust pipeline using HubSpot CRM, tracking activities, and providing accurate forecasts.
  • Market Intelligence: Staying informed on competitor activity and market trends to identify new opportunities.
  • Relationship Building: Cultivating long-term partnerships and ensuring evolving client needs are met with precision and care.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of outside sales and business development experience.
  • Proven track record of building and closing new business.
  • Strong understanding of cost structures in logistics (e.g., hours of service, fuel surcharges, vehicle types) or the ability to develop this understanding and ramp up quickly.
  • Experience with CRM systems (our client uses HubSpot CRM).
  • Experience in transportation, courier, or distribution is a strong asset.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Highly organized with strong time management and quoting accuracy.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a hunger to grow business and exceed targets.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and willingness to travel extensively within the territory are required.
