Summary
The Business Development Manager is responsible to identify, target, and deliver new business revenue to meet the organization’s financial targets while building strong, consistent client relationships and trust. The Business Development Manager is a key contributor to the achievement of the business strategy and deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Business Development
- Supports the development and delivery of geographic plans, strategies, policies, and processes aligned with the departments’ operational plans.
- Drives increased client revenue and seamless onboarding and builds strong client relationships to meet the business’s strategic plan.
- Leads the Company’s sales efforts by delivering new business revenue to the business units operating within defined target market verticals. Responds with urgency to all incoming leads received from marketing efforts. Personally involved in developing requested quotes and in responding to new RFP/RFQ invitations.
- Utilize knowledge of MTE’s strengths and competitive advantage to scan the marketplace and identify and pursue new business opportunities for growth.
- Proactively develop leads and identify new business opportunities including new markets, growth areas, trends customers, partnerships and pursue new business opportunities from targets within the local/regional markets. Aggressively target market share within the assigned geographic region.
- Track and report on financial performance as it pertains to business development goals and budget.
- Provide market feedback to the rest of the leadership team regarding competitive offerings, while generating new service strategies, revenue streams and ideas.
- Identify and plan opportunities for growth aligned with the established market strategy (into market segments, industry verticals, or potential expansion of service capabilities). Develop and present business case proposals to leadership.
- Develop new business acquisition strategies and action plans, with the intent to exceed budgeted annual growth.
- Conduct quarterly account summaries with the Vice President of Business Development, CFO and CEO, including recommendations for strategic actions to improve future results. Advise and share market pricing trends and recommend tactics that will improve both quote success ratios and the company profitability.
- Be creative and employ established sales tactics to connect with key players in the marketplace. Network and leverage your sales ability using various communication types to achieve a global reach.
- Proactively explore new business opportunities and drive company sales results. Target prospects can be any local, regional, national or international product-centric company that requires physical product distribution/consolidation.
- Liaise extensively with the VP Business Development, the BSD/IT group and the VP Operations across business units for successful onboarding of all new client accounts.
- Accurately and timely preparation and submission of all required reports, maintaining CRM as the key communication tool.
- Be an advocate for continuous improvement and provide management recommendations for change to support evolving client / market requirements.
- Monitor the competitive market landscape, and timely sharing of competitor information.
Client Service and Engagement
- Determine service requirements in communication with clients and pertinent personnel and amend / change service requirements as needed.
- Promote the company’s products/services addressing or predicting clients’ objectives.
- Understand the needs of your customers and be able to respond effectively with a plan of how to meet these.
- Work closely with senior management team members and develop very strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Ensure client expectations and Company capabilities are aligned; develop creative and financially lucrative service proposals to prospective clients, improving the sales close ratio; ensure all proposals follow a template driven methodology and help drive required EBIDTA contribution.
- Be the visible external face for driving the Company’s sales and marketing agenda.
- Develop and present sales proposals to clients, follow-up quotes, negotiate and close the business.
- Follow existing clients and develop deeper penetrations within larger clients by identifying opportunities and value add activities.
- Participate in trade shows to gather information and establish sales relationships.
- Plan key client visits within an annual calendar timeline.
- Meet with potential clients, identify needs and conduct facility tours. Work on business details (involving the support team as required) to identify how we may be able to partner with them.
- Employ a CRM strategy with key targets, sharing client information with the rest of the support team.
- Advocate growth and continuous improvement, using market intelligence to provide recommendations for diversification and future expansion.
- Continually enhance the quality and delivery of services to clients through identifying opportunities for efficiencies and innovation.
Other Duties as assigned
- Participate in management meetings and leadership meetings as requested.
- Participate in the annual budget preparation process, for revenue and cost alignment.
Qualifications and Experience
- Completion of post-secondary program in Business Administration, Communications, Economics, Marketing, Sales Management, or related field.
- A minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in business-to-business sales with a strong preference for 3PL warehousing.
- Experience working with teams in multiple locations in a 3PL warehousing environment is considered an asset. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Prior work experience in logistics, order fulfillment, and/or Supply Chain, 3PL experience.
- Demonstrates a strong service focus with experience across a broad range of business development, marketing strategy, market research, interpreting financial data, and interpersonal techniques and skills is required to achieve preferred outcomes.
- Excellent collaboration, relationship building, with proven ability to explain complex concepts clearly, gain input, and ensure mutual understanding of analytics and strategies.
- Experience with social media and knowledge of sales principles, with the ability to deliver clear and concise presentations and reports to various stakeholders is required.
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality and accountability.
- Politically savvy with demonstrated expertise in building and enhancing relationships with a diverse group of individuals.
- An ability to simultaneously and successfully handle multiple competing files and shifting priorities and deadlines.
- Proven achievement of results through strength in sound decision-making, organization, and time-management is key to success in the role.
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills with strong attention to detail including the ability to communicate complex technical issues to a non-technical audience across all levels of the organization.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of tools, CRM database management and spreadsheet applications along with the absolute ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality is essential.
- Prior Warehouse Management Systems (MAVES, Korber), and CRM systems (Acumatica) experience.
Working Conditions
- The work setting is an office environment using computers and other office equipment. Working variable hours or overtime is expected when required. This role is overtime exempt.
Physical Requirements
- May require periods of prolonged sitting and periods of walking and standing. Approximately 30% monthly travel is required to meet business needs.
