We are hiring for this position out of our Toronto offices. Successful candidates who apply from outside these areas will be expected to relocate within a commutable distance.

Role Overview

The role focuses on origination, structuring, underwriting, and execution of CMHC-insured and conventional construction and term loans, primarily in the multifamily asset class across Eastern Canada. It involves expanding the commercial real estate lending portfolio by leveraging broker relationships and identifying new business opportunities. Responsibilities include preparing and presenting detailed credit applications, ensuring compliance with risk and regulatory standards, and leading a team of Real Estate Associates, Analysts, and Coordinators to foster a collaborative, high-performance culture.

The position requires strong underwriting capabilities, a deep understanding of AML and KYC compliance, and managing complex transactions from origination to funding and portfolio monitoring. Bilingual proficiency in French and English is essential to support a diverse client base across Eastern Canada. This is a strategic, client-facing role combining credit expertise with business development to support growth.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in CMHC-insured construction and term loans.
  • Proven expertise in originating, structuring, underwriting, and executing conventional construction and bridge loans, especially in multifamily assets.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or business administration; MBA or relevant professional designations (CPA, CFA, CMA) are assets.
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English (oral and written) is essential.
  • Strong underwriting and portfolio management skills in commercial real estate.
  • Solid understanding of AML and KYC requirements in real estate financing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build client relationships and drive business growth.

Day-to-day Responsibilities

  • Originate and underwrite CMHC-insured and conventional loan proposals, primarily sourced through broker relationships.
  • Prepare and present credit applications to Peoples Trust’s Credit Committee, ensuring thorough analysis and risk alignment.
  • Lead and mentor a team of Real Estate Associates, Analysts, and Coordinators.
  • Coordinate funding activities with the mortgage funding team and legal counsel for timely closings.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and assist in resolving complex loan situations.
  • Drive business development through marketing and relationship-building across Eastern Canada.
