Job description

Job Title: Business Development and Event Planning Coordinator

Job Purpose: The Business Development and Event Planning Coordinator will play a key role in expanding the reach, revenue and community engagement of the Victoria Butterfly Gardens and other divisions within TTG. This individual will identify growth opportunities, build partnerships and execute events that align with TTG values and the Victoria Butterfly Gardens’ mission of education, conservation and immersive guest experience. Reporting to the Senior Marketing Manager, this role involves cultivating and maintaining strategic partnerships with tourism boards, hotel partners, tour operators, event planners and attractions. This role will expand the garden’s outreach and visibility, ensuring its position as a leading destination in BC. The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for the tourism industry, coupled with a strategic experiential mindset.

Position Details: Full-time. This role combines both in-office responsibilities and external engagement at all Flights, Cascadia and VG’s and will be based at The Truffles Group home office. (Weekend and evenings as required)

Compensation: $70,000 – $75,000 + bonus potential

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify, assess and pursue new revenue opportunities including group bookings, corporate partnerships, educational programs and special tours and onsite events.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive outbound strategic sales plans to achieve revenue targets and grow market share.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with existing key clients, tourism boards, hotel partners, tour operators, other attractions, online travel agencies, and transportation partners.
  • Monitor industry trends, customer preferences, and competitor offerings to identify areas for growth and innovation.
  • Conduct familiarization tours for potential clients to showcase the attraction’s offerings.
  • Actively promote the butterfly garden through outreach programs, events, presentations, promotions, and networking.
  • Collaborate closely with the marketing team to align sales strategies with advertising, promotional campaigns and branding efforts. Develop annual event calendars and budgets aligned with business objectives.
  • Attend and represent the Butterfly Gardens at trade shows, tourism expos, community events, and industry meetings and grow the business network.
  • Design and execute engaging public events, private bookings and education workshops for all TTG divisions (Flights, Cascadia and VBG). This includes working with animal charities to create interactive, themed or conservation related events and seeking out and evaluating sponsorship opportunities that align with business values and goals.
  • Manage outbound sales initiatives in local, regional, and international markets.
  • Track and analyze sales data, provide regular updates and analysis on optimization strategies and identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepare sales reports, projections, and budgets, and report to leadership on performance metrics.
  • Provide additional event support for each brand within The Truffles Group of companies.

Education, Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Event Management, Marketing, Tourism, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in outbound sales, preferably in tourism, hospitality, event management or a related industry.
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets and developing successful sales strategies.
  • Strong relationship-building and networking skills with experience working with tourism boards, hotels, tour operators, and similar partners.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Willingness to travel locally, regionally, and internationally as required.
  • A passion for nature, wildlife conservation and sustainability. Knowledge of the Greater Victoria tourism landscape
  • Familiarity with CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite and social media/digital marketing platforms
