Job summary

A consulting technology firm is seeking a Business Consultant - Intermediate for a 12+ month contract. Primarily a remote role with possible in-person meetings, you will work with the Registries Modernization team to enhance business processes using Agile methodologies. The position involves facilitating requirements gathering, conducting gap analysis, and liaising with stakeholders to achieve operational efficiency. Ideal candidates will have experience with JIRA and a results-driven approach to consulting.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience conducting a gap analysis between legacy systems and modern solutions.
  • An understanding of Agile framework (SCRUM) through demonstrated experience.
  • A results-driven mindset and able to function independently.
  • A thorough understanding and experience using an Agile/Hybrid approach.

Job description

Title: Business Consultant - Intermediate

Duration: 12+ Months

Location: Edmonton, Alberta

Per worker model below this is a Remote role, however please see details below for possible in person meetings or work sessions.

• Standard Hours of work are 08:15 – 16:30 Alberta time, Monday through Friday excluding holidays observed by the Province.

This resource will primarily work remotely; however, the resource may be required to attend meetings or work sessions in office on reasonable notice from the Province. This can be up to 4 times a year pending on demand.

The Registries Modernization team is taking an agile approach to implementing modernized, innovative, human‑centric and sustainable solutions for delivering registry services to Albertans. For the Business and Vital Events Registry (BVER), this includes initiatives to provide modernization to our Vital Stats, Personal Property and Corporate registries. Our team is looking for a Business Consultant who is process oriented and experienced in gathering requirements, performing gap analysis, and working with stakeholders to deliver solutions that meet business needs and drive operational efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate requirements gathering sessions and conduct process walkthroughs:
    • Identify goals and pain points through gap analysis on current state and future state business processes.
    • Create, review and update user stories, personas and journey maps, as applicable.
    • Create system use cases, flow diagrams and interactive mock‑ups outlining functional requirements, as required.
    • Document and validate results with subject matter experts and drive the creation of detailed business and functional requirements specification documents.
  • Support development of necessary system (non‑technical) documentation as well as make recommendations for policy and/or procedural manuals.
  • Support change management and training to ensure delivery of complex program changes.
  • Conduct post implementation reviews, assessing opportunities for backlog refinement and for continuous improvement.
  • Liaise with security and privacy teams to complete security threat risk assessments and privacy impact assessments as required.
  • Assist with project planning, scheduling and status reporting as required.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience conducting a gap analysis between legacy systems and modern solutions.
  • An understanding of Agile framework (SCRUM) through demonstrated experience.
  • A results‑driven mindset and able to function independently, while engaging with other stakeholders and team members as required to deliver outcomes.
  • A thorough understanding and experience using an Agile/Hybrid approach. Experience with tools such as JIRA is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to apply and interpret complex legislations/regulations, policies, and standards.
