Mandate

The Business Applications Officer plays a key role in supporting operational excellence across the Wellness, Recreation and Athletics Department (WRAD) at UVic. Reporting to the Director, Finance and Operations, and with a functional reporting line to the Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis, the Analyst ensures the effective management of WRAD’s registration, ticketing, athlete management, scheduling, and booking platforms. Through system optimization, data analysis, and reporting, the Analyst enhances service delivery, supports strategic planning, and fosters a culture of data-driven decision-making within the department.

Objectives

  • Supporting the maintenance, optimization, and evaluation of WRAD’s registration, ticketing, booking/scheduling, and student information systems.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting operational data to support identification of trends, improve service delivery, and inform departmental planning and decision-making.
  • Supports the development and maintenance of dashboards, reports, and data visualizations that support leadership, financial management, and program operations.
  • In collaboration with UVic Systems and UVic’s Privacy Office, ensures the privacy, security, and integrity of departmental data in compliance with UVic policies and best practices.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders and vendors to resolve system issues, implement improvements, and foster a culture of data-driven decision-making.

Due to the nature of a 7-day/week department operation driven by events and programs that run on evenings and weekends, this role requires occasional work outside regular hours.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, and at least 3 years of relevant experience, preferably in an educational, service, or recreation setting. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Include

  • Demonstrated experience supporting and improving software platforms for registration, ticketing, bookings, and scheduling.
  • Ability to troubleshoot system issues and work with IT teams and vendors to find solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills with experience managing projects, workflows, and system upgrades.
  • Proficiency in data collection, cleaning, analysis, and visualization using SQL, Power BI, and related reporting tools.
  • Ability to work with large datasets and turn data into useful insights for decision-making.
  • Experience creating dashboards, reports, and visualizations to support planning and operations.
  • Knowledge of data privacy laws and regulations.
  • Ability to work well both independently and with cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to keep learning and stay current with new data tools and best practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a service-focused approach.
  • Familiarity with platforms like Fusion, iWork, AIMS, Banner, University Tickets, and SharePoint is an asset.
  • Familiarity with university systems and workflows, including financial reporting, customer relationship management (CRM), and scheduling tools, is an asset.
