Position Purpose :

The Business Analyst is responsible for gathering business requirements at customer sites including defining current process flows, use cases, and activity diagrams. As part of a project team, the Business Analyst will interact with the project leadership and project team to ensure the solution is being delivered on time and meets or exceeds the customer’s requirements.

Success in this Role looks like…

  • Able to work with minimal supervision creating documentation, gathering requirements from clients or Orion groups, validating test scripts against requirements & completing training guides and run book documents among other documentation
  • Able to work with Clinical Work Groups, and other client stakeholders and credibly discuss / capture / record clinical notes, actions and decisions as they relate to solution requirements, and maintenance of requirements documents
  • Ensure client feedback is included in revisions, author and maintain functional requirements / specifications, work with engineering team to refine same, accurately records requirements and obtains client acceptance of requirements / specifications before engineering effort is exerted
  • Proactively engages clients / stakeholders to identify requirements that may be conflicting, not currently supported, need refinement, or are impractical and identify workarounds, alternatives or enhancement requests to be shared with the development team
  • Complies with all quality management system requirements for project documentation and tracking / control of documents, ensuring clear and complete presentation and communications of requirements and specifications
  • Works and supports with services team managing requirements and specifications, and collaborating with project management, engineering, quality assurance, clinical and change management teams as required to clarify and update requirements aspects and drive the successful implementation of solutions
  • Assist in knowledge transfer, either to new project team members or in warm handoff to the Customer Support Team in aftercare for clients

Essential Functions :

Technical Expertise

  • Understanding the long-term business objectives and suggesting technical strategies to meet those objectives; introducing innovation to business processes through technology
  • Participating in the creation of and overseeing execution of test plans to ensure that business requirements and functional specifications are tested and fulfilled
  • Contributes to organizational change management by facilitating robust user acceptance testing and supporting the training phase of projects
  • Excellent understanding of documentation required in the solution development lifecycle, including business requirements, software / solution specifications, test cases, defect documentation, release notes, etc, as well as various requirement documentation tools including process diagrams, use cases, user stories, among others
  • Solid understanding of common Healthcare IT data standards including HL7 (v2.x and 3.x), FHIR, CCD, CCA, X12, EDI etc.

Project Management

  • Collecting, understanding, and transmitting the business requirements for the project, and translating these into functional specifications and detailed test plans
  • Documenting workflows and results of business analysis and obtaining sign-off from client on specifications
  • Defines current / future state process flows, Use Cases and activity diagrams

Client Relationship

  • Partnering with clients to gather all requirements to formulate business specifications and translating those into application functionality, deciding when to advocate and when to compromise to arrive at a mutually acceptable solution
  • Assisting client in developing content or other materials; recommending enhancements and identifying new business requirements
  • Responsible for identifying, refining, and validating business requirements with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Works directly with external third party vendors of each Orion Health solution and the users accessing the software
  • Builds and manages synergistic relationships with relevant business partners

Internal Relationship

  • Assisting the technical team in translating application functionality into application architecture and the production of a System Functionality document
  • Liaises with other internal teams in engineering to qualify requirements supported by Orion products or identify / discuss alternatives when features are not currently supported

Behavioural and Technical Capabilities

  • Speaks, writes and presents effectively always utilising correct English grammar and sentence structure
  • Explores all alternatives and suggestions to reach an outcome that all parties support and accept
  • Demonstrates a sound understanding of the IT industry, development languages and has advanced problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of or hand-on experience in project management and planning
  • Working effectively within a decentralised / remote project team

Relevant Experience :

  • Minimum of 4+ years working in an IT Business Analyst capacity, 3+ years working in the healthcare IT industry, and exposure to a professional software development environment and culture
  • Some familiarity with software development environment tools such as JIRA, Confluence, TFS (Teams), etc.

Education & Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Healthcare, related field, or technical related field.
  • Active IIBA (CBAP / CCBA) or PMI (PMI-PBA) certification for Business Analysts
  • Master’s Degree, desirable
