South Shore Regional Centre for Education

The South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) practices a culturally responsive pedagogy approach to provide an inclusive, diverse, equitable, safe, and healthy education that supports personal and academic success for the 59,000 residents of Lunenburg and Queens Counties. This area covers 5,250 square kilometres and includes 23 schools.

Job Description:

The 9-12 Teacher is responsible for teaching and supporting students within the South Shore Regional Centre for Education. The teacher will work within the Inclusive Education Policy framework, participating in individualized program planning with school staff and families to maximize student learning experiences.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification
  • Bachelor of Education - Secondary
  • University education in Math and Science
  • OR a minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching at least 50% Math or Science within the last seven (7) years with positive performance appraisals and/or references
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
  • Professional development in Math and Science
  • Experience teaching Math and Science, grades 9-12
Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with school and inter-agency teams
  • Experience in culturally responsive pedagogy and working with diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge of developmental trauma and its impact on learning
  • Willingness to engage in professional development
  • Ability to develop and monitor individualized programs
  • Knowledge of non-violent crisis intervention techniques
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Experience in training and professional learning development
  • Completion of WHMIS and First Aid or willingness to obtain
