School District 72 operates throughout a large geographic area. Campbell River and Quadra Island schools and our school board office are located on the traditional territory of the Liǧʷiɫdaxʷ people. School District 72 also encompasses the traditional territory of the Klahoose (Cortes), K'ómoks (Sayward), and χʷɛmaɬkʷu (Bute Inlet) First Nations.

Join our Team

School District 72 is seeking a Bus Driver (Courier) to provide transportation services for students traveling between Sayward and Campbell River, and conduct courier services during the day between routes. The position involves operating a school bus in accordance with BC Motor Vehicle Act Regulations and School District Policy, supporting the Sayward to Campbell River route, and includes a split shift of 8 hours, with responsibilities for school deliveries and related duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor and/or School Administrator.

Located on the east coast of central Vancouver Island, School District 72 serves over 5,600 students across 18 schools, including the outer islands of Read, Cortes, and Quadra. The district values its relationships with Indigenous communities and strives to provide culturally responsive programs and services.

Position Responsibilities

  • Operate a school bus safely and in accordance with regulations and policies.
  • Create a safe environment for students on the bus.
  • Maintain the vehicle in safe condition and perform minor maintenance.
  • Practice defensive driving and good driving habits.
  • Monitor and ensure student safety during loading, riding, and unloading, especially for students with special needs or behavioral challenges.
  • Communicate with parents, teachers, and administrators regarding student behavior and discipline.
  • Participate in professional development as offered.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1,000 hours of recent bus driving experience.
  • Current valid BC Drivers' License, Class 2, with airbrake endorsement.
  • Understanding of bus driving procedures and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Physical capability to perform all aspects of bus driving.
