Building Technician

Location: Regina, SK

Number of Positions: 1

Salary: $30.07 - $43.18/hour (Based on education and experience)

Type of Position: Permanent Full Time

Job Summary

Responsible for operating, maintaining and repairing SaskTel buildings and properties with required certification and licensing. Acts as chief engineer and refrigeration engineer as specified in the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Act of Saskatchewan. Provides project and contract management on contracted building services.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities

(Not all inclusive or applicable to all assignments)

  • Acts as Chief Engineer and Refrigeration Engineer. Responsible for all heating, cooling and humidification systems.
  • Operates, maintains and repairs buildings, systems, equipment and grounds, adhering to buildings’ practices, programs and all applicable statutes and regulations.
  • Performs regular preventative maintenance routines on systems and buildings.
  • Promptly responds to customer requests. Identifies and analyzes problems and takes corrective action.
  • Investigates, takes corrective action and/or resolves environmental issues by inspecting, calibrating and troubleshooting HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) equipment and controls.
  • Responsible for administration of contracted buildings services. (i.e. snow removal, grounds maintenance).
  • Provides project management for maintenance, repair and renovation projects and assists other departments in initial input and/or support requests of projects. Initiates status reports on projects.
  • Directs monitors, inspects and evaluates contractor performance on building maintenance and construction projects. Assigns and coordinates daily workloads.
  • Ensures accurate building maintenance and equipment records are maintained including information on all maintenance and construction projects.
  • Monitors and analyzes energy consumption levels, equipment status alarms, environmental and safety conditions of SaskTel buildings and properties.
  • Acts as Chief Emergency Evacuation Warden and participates on Occupational Health and Safety and Fire Committees.
  • Assists in the preparation and tracking of departmental budgets.
  • Ensures the safe handling, transportation, storage and use of all chemicals (i.e. pesticides, water treatment, housekeeping material and products) in accordance with all applicable statutes and regulations.
  • Maintaining remote access for District sites using various specific systems.
  • Maintain database for building related equipment within each site. Update and use the SAP Preventative Maintenance module to comply with all legislation.

Qualifications

  • The candidate must satisfy one of the following education/experience combinations:
  • 3rd Class Power Engineer Certification
  • Journeyperson: electrician, plumber, carpenter, or refrigeration technician
  • 4th Class Power Engineer Certification and Refrigeration Engineer Certification
  • Certificate in Building Systems Technician and 5th Class Power Engineer Certification and Refrigeration Engineer Certification
  • BOMI SMT with two years of relevant experience and 5th Class Power Engineer Certification and Refrigeration Engineer Certification
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and various software applications.
  • Ability to lead and train others.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with others.
  • General knowledge of building equipment.
  • General knowledge of fire codes, regulations, procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
  • General knowledge of Environmental regulations and Policies.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Qualifications to progress to Step H: Pesticide Applicators Certificates(Industrial and Structural).
  • Qualification to progress to Step I: Completion of specified online courses (Time Management – 5 modules, Project Management – 10 modules) and the BOMI SMA Environmental Health and Safety Issues module OR completion of the BOMI SMA designation.

This is an on-site position located at the location(s) above. The successful candidate must be located within the province of Saskatchewan. Out of province/country candidates must be willing to relocate. Flexible work opportunities, in province, may be available.
